Top Fashion Issue Cakes: Editors' Picks

Fashion Week is one of our favorite times of year at Cake Central. In Volume 3, Issue 8 of Cake Central Magazine, we were captivated by the breathtaking artistry on display on the world’s haute couture runways, and we wanted to share our enthusiasm with the cake decorating world. We set our decorators’ imaginations loose and asked them to create their own works of art inspired by the year’s fashions. Ever since, our cakemakers have been bitten by the fashion bug, and a tradition has been born.

In celebration of our highly anticipated 2013 Fashion Issue, we’ve taken a look back at our favorite fashion-inspired cake masterpieces. Enjoy, be inspired and don’t forget to download your copy of the latest Fashion Issue (Volume 4, Issue 9) on sale August 28, 2013!

I love the tall tiers of this cake. Its towering height makes it instantly elegant. The color palette, inspired by the Giambattista Valli gown, is rich and inviting, and the variegation in color is particularly remarkable. My eye doesn’t sit in one spot too long, but keeps moving to look at all the beauty this cake has to offer.

I was instantly drawn to this delicate Chanel-inspired cake. I love how the soft pink tiers are complemented by an exquisite array of gumpaste flowers, the design strong yet implicitly feminine. This cakemaker has perfectly captured the lighthearted elegance of Chanel, recreating poignant design elements in an entirely unique fashion.

Inspired by a gown created for Versace’s Fall 2012 collection, this stunning showstopper was created by cakemaker Sara Trull. I love the way the flowing complexity of the Versace dress has been translated into intricate, feminine details on this cake. From carefree ruffles to elegant gold accents, this cake would be the perfect centerpiece at a spring wedding reception.

I love the way this cake so creatively captures the stark asymmetry of this Stella McCartney dress in both its tier stacking and texture/color blocking. I’m also a huge fan of complementary colors, so I was really caught by the contrast between the baby blue and deep red. Though it certainly pays homage to the dress design, this cake is a clear reflection of the cakemaker’s ingenuity and creative talent.
