Baby Book
This design came from a Wilton book. I couldn't find the baby angel in my area so I ended up making it with rolled fondant. The pink half circles and uppercase letters are also rolled fondant. the rattles and blocks were store bought. The drop flowers are made of royal icing (since I never could make a nice Buttercream drop flower directly on a cake). The rest of the cake is decorated with Buttercream Icing.
Gorgeous! This is WAY better than the one in the Wilton book!
this is really pretty - great job
Wow, this is a beauty! Your work is wonderful and the design is awesome. Cute baby!
How adoreable!! Love your baby angel.....great job making it out of fondant!
gorgeous!
Yes, I used a cake comb on the sides. I found it to be very difficult. With the board being in the way I could hardly get the curved effect. If I do this again I am going to put the cake on a cardboard to fit the size of the cake, then put it on my turntable, then ice the sides and comb them before I put it on the covered board. If anyone has another suggestion, I would like to hear it. Thanks!
This is flawless! Really beautiful...I'm new at decorating...how did you make the pages? A cake comb?
Thank you all!!! jennzapita ~ have you tried the Viva paper towel method? Just ice the cake, let the icing dry a bit (mine usually takes 5- 10 min.), put a Viva papertowel on the icing and gently smooth it with your hand or the fondant smoother. My favorite is the fondant smoother. I call it my cake "iron"
can someone give a suggestion how to get the buttercream so smooth like that? I have such a hard time with it...this cake looks fabulous!
Wilton should have used your picture in the 2006 book! Your angel is PERFECT!!
