Bride To Bee - Bridal Shower Cake
10" vanilla with raspberry jam and white chocolate buttercream filling 8" gluten-free chocolate with milk chocolate buttercream filling So I haven't posted in a while but I have been caking ... this was from today after an absolutely crazy week, I made this cake from scratch Friday am and delivered it barely 24 hours later. Luckily, I had had time to make the flowers and the bee-bodies on Monday! Cake was covered with fondant and 'grass' & honeycomb added last night then finishing touches were put on this morning before we headed off to a swim meet.

The brief included a shoe and some flowers on an ivory cake inspired by the table setting for the party - top tier 8" Gluten Free chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling. The bottom tier 10" vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream filling.

Sesame Street Baby Shower
A friend-of-a-friend wanted this cake for a baby shower - baby Mason arrived 9 weeks early but is doing well, his shower was yesterday. Unlike most of my cakes which are for friends and neighbours, this one had to travel about 40 minutes and the box was too big to rest on a lap - it made it safe and sound though! 10"x10" vanilla cake, 8"x8" chocolate cake, 6"x6" vanilla cake.

In Loving Memory
I don't normally write a huge blurb about my cakes - I am a hobbyist as MD laws mean that it's practically and monetarlity prohibative for me to make cakes out of my home for money. This cake was for today ... the funeral of one of my middle daughter's closest friends and a band mate of my older daughter. Both have been deeply affected by his death. Alex chose to take his own life - a tragic result of a deep depression that he saw no way out of. As I see an entire Sophomore class as well as a Scouting organization and a high school band across the grades try and come to terms with Alex's passing I also see great strength in our kids and I wish that they come out of this with an understanding that being the life and soul of the party doesn't mean the same is going on inside, that depression is more often than not a silent illness and that you should always speak out if you are worried about a friend. They asked me to make a cake for today's reception - white, a picture of Alex and a splash of his favorite colour - green. So In Loving Memory of Alex from my girls, be at peace young man <3

Superbowl 50 10Th Birthday Cake
A neighbor has her daughter's 8th birthday cake from me last weekend (karaoke theme) and this weekend her son turns 10 and is celebrating tonight with friend watching the Superbowl - this cake was in homage to both teams (with a slight bias to the Broncos who Colin was supporting!)

See You Later Alligator Ii
This cake was 2 years later and with much more experience under my belt. We still had the cupcakes to go with it but many more animals on the cake in and around the Jelly 'swamp'. This was super-fun to make - all the graduating kids had their name on a leaf around the bottom of the cake.

See You Later Alligator I
My two youngest kids went to a pre-school that have the same theme to their graduation party each year. I think the hardest thing to do is to decorate a second cake with the same theme and make it different. I was told by the teachers for the second cake that the cupcakes were a must so they stayed the same - I will post the 2nd cake in a sec!

Hollywood Party
Each year we host a costume party around Halloween. The party is themed, this theme was famous partners and the dessert table had a Hollywood theme to it. The decoration went all round the cake but I'll be darned if I can get more than one picture to upload to a post so this was the front of the cake!

Ballet Shoes
My daughter promised her friend's Mum (who also happens to be my first-grader's teacher) that she would bring a cake for her friend's birthday - I had 2 other cakes to do that weekend (given that this is not my business, this is an expensive hobby) it was a lot for me in one weekend, needless to say the kitchen looked like a bakery and we ate out!

Beer Mug
A girlfriend asked me to make a beer mug cake for her hubby's 40th birthday. I had never made a barrel cake before but I'm always up for a challenge. I did make a trial barrel cake (that ended up being in celebration of the birth of a friend's baby) and this was my offering! I found that covering the cake in ganache (courtesy of a fabulous tutorial by Inspired By Michelle Cake Designs) instead of my usual buttercream made it very sturdy to hold the fondant but it also made it costly to make because I only use Girardhelli in my baking!

1St Birthday "smash" Cake
So I'm English, living in America. I've had 2 kids here but until this year, I had never heard of a "smash" cake. For those of you unfamiliar with what it is ... let me enlighten you! It's a [typically] small, like 6" cake made for a child's 1st birthday the purpose of which is to be "smashed" by the kid while the parents (or pros in the case of this cake) take pictures of a cake covered toddler! Not sure how I feel about making a cake simply to smash it up but this was an ask for a friend (and I made the party cake for the adults to enjoy too!!)

Choo-Choo Train 1St Birthday
A girlfriend asked me for a cake for her son's first birthday, no guidance as to what she wanted so I had fun with some animal cutters/embossers I already had, bought a train cutter and cut my own carriages. . You can't see on this pic (and for some reason my uploads freeze on additional pictures) but the carriages extend around the cake with a different animal in each carriage I had some issues with the blue fondant covering the 6" cake for some reason not settling on the cake so well but hey, he's one ... he was happy!!
