Vintage Steampunk Birthday Cake
This is the first cake that I have made for myself. This was my birthday cake this year. My husband did all of the woodwork and my brother handled the mechanics. All of the sugar and cake work were my responsibility. The sugar work for this cake took aprox. 56 hours to complete. There was the Steampunk High Heeled shoe, Dress Hat with Steampunk Goggles, Mechanics, Sugar Flowers and the cake boards were fondant covered as well. When creating the cog wheel cake boards I quickly figured out how complex functioning cog wheels were to make. If I had it to do all over again I would have made them with rounded cogs rather than squared. They kept catching but only once a rotation. Both of the cakes were sculpted pieces but the corset cake more so than the trunk cake. I had never made a sculpted corset cake until now. Well, let's just say that I learned a few things. In hind sight I think that I should have listened to my mother and placed the corset cake on the cog that I placed the heel on. All in all I think that it turned out beautifully though. German Beer Stein Birthday Cake
The original design idea for this birthday cake was a German Beer Stein but I wasn’t sure exactly how I was going to add the wow factor to it. So, I had to pull my husband and my Uncle in on designing this cake. First there was the stein…I wanted to express family heritage in a family crest. So, I contacted my Uncle Jim who has, amazingly, traced our families’ lineage back to 1275! That within itself is just mind blowing! His name was Sir William Fletcher born in Cumberland, England. My Uncle graciously found several images for me to pull inspiration from but I found that I liked the full heraldic achievement best. After narrowing down the options to just two I decided that it would be best to go with a blue and silver color scheme versus the red and gold of my Great Grandfather Baron Lancelot Fletcher. Hand painting red on fondant has a tendency to streak and once the edible glaze is applied it would stick out like a sore thumb. When it came down to the shield design I was explained that the fletching symbols needed to be pointing down. I have to be honest here…I actually had to look up what a fletching was. LOL! Overall, I ended up combining the two shield designs. The cake board was specially cut to give the appearance of flagstone and is a combination of rolled fondant and royal icing. My husband suggested that most people associated beer steins with food items such as cheese, sausages and bread. This is when I decided that I would create three different cakes and each being a different flavor. The stein cake was, fittingly, made German Chocolate cake. The cheese wheel cake was vanilla with a homemade vanilla custard filling and lastly the round loaf bread was Almond Amaretto Cream cake. It was definitely a lot of work but when it came all together most found it hard to believe that it was cake! That is such an awesome feeling!

Superhero Baby Shower Cake
This seems to be a very popular cake. I believe this is the third one that I have made and it still turned out beautifully. There's Captain America, Batman, Superman and the infamous Thor's Hammer. This was actually a single layer tiered cake. Each layer was torted twice and gave me the height that I needed to include all of the elements that the customer wanted. Thor's hammer needed to be light so that I could lean it back as if it were smashing into the cobble stone cake board. So, I created it from rice krispie treats and covered it in fondant.

Victorian Steampunk Birthday Cake
Oh how I have been waiting so very long to do this type of cake. There is just something about a cross between the eclectic feel of the Victorian Era and the Fantasy World of Steampunk fashion. The rough textures of leather combined with the metallic finishes but all are softened by the elegance of the pearl swag, feathered dress hat and sugar flowers. Sophisticated Elegance!

Hearts And Ruffles Baby Shower Cake
Today we celebrated our upcoming seventh grandchild. Our youngest daughter and son in law will soon be parents for the first time and will be proudly welcoming a cute little girl! So, it was hearts, ribbons and ruffles for this party theme. I think that my daughter chose a beautiful cake design that fit the theme of the party wonderfully. The flavor of this cake was Cherry Vanilla. I should have gotten pictures when it was cut into. The cake was torted so it had these thin layers of alternating pink and vanilla cake with homemade cherry filling and buttercream in between. It turned out beautifully and everyone had a blast!

Army Seal Birthday Cake
The recipient of this cake is giving serious consideration to joining the army and requested an Army designed birthday cake. So, I decided to replicate the Army seal as close as i possibly could in three dimension. The eagle head and legs are formed from RKT and modeling chocolate. The wings are comprised of layered sculpted modeling chocolate. The rest of the decorations were fondant. The cake board was set up with angled brackets that were bent to about a 45 degree angle. To give the cake a little more personal touch I made a plaque with the birthday recipient's name and an American flag on it.

Stacked Photo Cube Anniversary Cake
I have been dying to make this cake design for quite some time. I finally got the opportunity to do so in celebration of our 14th wedding anniversary. The original design is by Edna De la Cruz of www.designmeacake.com. She makes some very awesome cakes! On one side of the photo cube cakes I used photos from our wedding. Then to reflect time that has gone by I added more up to date photos. (Images taken by Amanda with Inretrospect Photography.) This was a chocolate cake that was covered in chocolate ganache, rather than a buttercream, and had a Nutella pastry cream combined with a raspberry filling. Although, I do wish that we had a white wine versus the sweet red that we had with it. Overall, the flavor was divine!

Sweet 16 Topsy Turvy Party Dress Cake
My 15 year old (turning 16) niece and I made this cake. She has taken an interest in making cakes. So, after we sat down and worked out her design idea we made her Sweet 16 birthday cake. She was really tickled pink when the "Cake Boss" favorited her cake on Twitter.

Betty Boop Anniversary Cake
The Banner and roses are made from modeling chocolate. The roses are chocolate covered strawberry roses which was a huge disaster because once the cake started to warm up they started bleeding all over the cake. I wouldn't have tried such an experimental technique had I not known the individual in which i did this cake for.

Chocolate Rose Cake
This Gluten Free chocolate cake is filled with a chocolate espresso ganache, coated in a luscious chocolate buttercream and has a pour over of more ganache. Chocolate sculpted roses elegantly swag the side. Since this was the first time working with chocolate roses I was afraid that they would fall off the side but stuck beautifully.
