This is the first cake that I have made for myself. This was my birthday cake this year. My husband did all of the woodwork and my brother handled the mechanics. All of the sugar and cake work were my responsibility. The sugar work for this cake took aprox. 56 hours to complete. There was the Steampunk High Heeled shoe, Dress Hat with Steampunk Goggles, Mechanics, Sugar Flowers and the cake boards were fondant covered as well. When creating the cog wheel cake boards I quickly figured out how complex functioning cog wheels were to make. If I had it to do all over again I would have made them with rounded cogs rather than squared. They kept catching but only once a rotation. Both of the cakes were sculpted pieces but the corset cake more so than the trunk cake. I had never made a sculpted corset cake until now. Well, let's just say that I learned a few things. In hind sight I think that I should have listened to my mother and placed the corset cake on the cog that I placed the heel on. All in all I think that it turned out beautifully though.
