Sweet Ride!
Chocolate fudge cake with choco syrup frosting and then covered with homemade fondant. It is 18 inches long and 7 inches wide. It was not quite finished yet when I took these photos. (I added some clumps of grass and tiny yellow flowers to the rocks, but have no photo of them.) The wheels are fondant-covered cookies with the hubcaps painted with edible silver. The mustang emblem on the front was cut by hand while looking at a picture on the internet. The licence plate tells whose birthday it is. The speed limit sign tells how old he is. Although the key is out of proportion, it is also made of fondant (mixed with gumpaste).

Hummingbird
Recently while on holiday in the mountains, I was inspired by the beauty of the hummingbirds and the wild flower meadows and decided to try and capture it in a cake. This was my first time to try to sculp something -- the bird out of gum paste. I did the wings in several layers. I painted it with gel colours mixed with vodka (another first!). It was also the first time to use my new air brush on buttercream. Flowers are cut from fondant. Chocolate fudge layer and smaller white layer plus cupcakes for a surprise 85th birthday.

Small Autumn Wedding
Small 2-layer French vanilla wedding cake iced in buttercream with fondant flowers, leaves, and ribbon. The bride wanted a specific colour of burgundy for the ribbon, which I found difficult to tie into the autumn colours she wanted. Colouring the leaves and adding the purple colour of daisies helped.

Tasty Tower
Cupcake tower -- chocolate fudge and vanilla iced in buttercream (16 doz). Top cake is carrot-pineapple iced in buttercream, with fondant cutouts and handmade gumpaste roses. First time doing cupcakes and I could hardly believe how much more icing it took to decorate this "ice cream cone" style!

Tea Time
Chocolate fudge cake iced in buttercream. The "lid" was made of the trimings from leveling the 2 halfs of the ball pan. I covered the lid only with fondant, so that I would have something to hold when I pushed in the spout and handle. Spout and handle are a combo of gumpaste and fondant. Napkin is fondant (see also the closeup detail. Roses are gumpaste. The bridal shower was a high tea, so this fit in well. Also made and decorated 4 dozen mini cupcakes to accompany it.

Easter Baptism
Chocolate fudge cake with chocolate filling and iced in buttercream with fondant accents. Since the 3 children were being baptised on Easter Sunday, the customer wanted something bright and spring-like, but not too feminine. Originally the cake was going to have blades of grass inserted between the flower groupings, but it was going to take more time than I had, so went with the look of dirt (cookie crumbs) instead. The scroll and clouds in the blue sky were meant to indicate God's blessing on the children.

Autumn Twist
October wedding featuring white, lemon, pumpkin, & chocolate cakes (top to bottom), iced in buttercream (pumpkin layer with cream cheese). The bride drew a sketch for me to follow. Gumpaste tiger lilies with buttercream swirls and silver dragees. Bride wanted chunky letters (cut from gumpaste and painted with edible silver). Used real ribbon instead of fondant, for ease of on-site setup of cake. Buttercream suffered some tiny cracks due to 3-hour drive and hot weather!!

Caution! Wet Paint ...
The birthday girl is forever redecorating her house with a new coat of paint! Paint can is three 6" layers of rainbow bit cake with buttercream icing and fondant accents. Roller and handle are rice krispie treats. The handle was too heavy and had to be propped up with a wooden scewer. Paint brush and colour swatch were fondant. Inspired by others here on CC. Really fun to do!!

Explosion!
Chocolate fudge cake with butter cream (white) icing and choclate syrup icing (recipe by mohara on CC). The tan colour is the only fondant used. Wires were placed in a floral spike, and surrounded by dried triangles of chocolate icing. Cake crumbs were sprinked inside the "explosion" along with more icing balls, and finally topped with edible gold flakes. I added the topper on location. This was downright scarey to deliver (45 minute drive) on frozen bumpy roads. It was for a surprize party, and I didn't want to surprize them with a cake that toppled over!

Candy Cane Christmas
I've done this cake in a few variations when I need something quick and easy for Christmas or December birthdays. It is buttercream with fondant stripes and gumpaste and fondant for holly and berries (I make a supply of these ahead of time). Sometimes I add a fondant bow. Festive!

Twilight Birthday
The apple is carved from cake and covered with buttercream, then fondant. The tulip is from a blend of fondant & gumpaste, as are the chess men. 12" and 7" layers are iced in buttercream, with fondant accents. The board is covered in 2" squares of fondant. Having never seen the book, I had to do some research before coming up with this design for a birthday request. Challenging, but I enjoyed the results.

This cake was created a couple of years ago for a teacher who wanted to remind her colleagues of the upcoming first day of school. Buttercream frosting. Leaves were cut out of gumpaste/fondant blend from a coardboard pattern that I made. Acorns are a whole almond with a fondant 'cap'.

Summer Daisies
Main 2-tier cake is angel food cake covered in fondant. The bride wanted daisies and the groom wanted green fleur-de-lis (these were all hand cut and shaped, since I couldn't find cutters in the size I needed). The diamond was done freehand by lightly pressing with a knife. The mini cakes were white vanilla (daisies) and chocolate fudge (fleur-de-lis). The bride made all the 4"x6" boxes. This whole cake was far more time consuming than I anticipated!
