A Cake For Our Little Princess: Princess Ariel, Jasmine, Elsa And Friends Flounder, Rajah And Olaf
My darling daughter wanted a princess cake and she wanted Princess Ariel because she had seen me do one before for a friend’s daughter but I didn’t want to repeat the same thing and wanted to have a different twist on it so Ariel had a swing to sit on which actually MOVES and then Frozen was supposed to be released and Princess Elsa and Olaf was a great temptation then flying carpet and it sort of snowballed on from there I ended up making 3 princesses and their friends for her 3rd birthday. Was she happy?……… well she was ecstatic from the expression on her face when she saw the cake….so I was pretty pleased too :-). Also wanted to push my limits with this cake since it is going to be my last cake for a while ( at least 6 months to rest my hands and hopefully temptation doesn’t step in :-)). It did take a while to create from loads of planning , to creating the cake board ( numerous visits to Bunnings the hardware store, to using the driller, hack saw, putting in all the support, ensuring that it is all food safe), to doing the figurines, to setting it up , making the cake and carving and putting it all together. It has been made with butter cake, chocolate cake and red velvet cake, orange flavoured butter cream and chocolate buttercream, fondant and the figurines done with gumpaste and fondant. Few hiccups along the way and few things not very happy with….. The party for the family was supposed to have been end of last year but due to unavoidable circumstances was postponed to yesterday. I had real trouble restarting the cake after the X’mas/ New Year break and being sick just after, only managed to waddle through beginning of last week and somehow managed to finish it, cook and arrange the party . Luckily I have found out that I seem to work better under pressure, I also had most of my figurines ready( Ariel, Jasmine, Elsa, Olaf were done last year but Flounder and Rajah were done last week) and I had so much help with the food and desserts. Today I have a splitting headache and my hands are gone, feel like a bulldozer had just driven all over me. Well I guess I will survive and all this for the love of my daughter :-). Overall pretty pleased with the outcome. Hope you love my creation. There is also a little video(not full size, I don’t think I will be able to post it here, It is already on my blog and FB ) to show Princess Ariel on a moving swing, and princess Jasmine on a flying carpet ( This backfired a bit, initially she was going to be just on one support but I underestimated how back heavy she would be come and had to add another support :-( )……all this handmade my MOI……Hope my technical experimentation and my cake making is worth having a look :-). Thank you so much all you wonderful people for your awesome support so far and so sorry for the writeup for being so lengthy!!!!!
A Chubby Little Artist Doll..... And Ohhhh So Messy !!!!
My niece told me what she wanted beginning of last year….. An ART based cake. I thought of a design then a month after I found out a cake designer I admire greatly (who didn’t know anything about what I had thought of ) had just created something similar and hers was awesome. I was happy that I was thinking along the same line but I didn’t want to do my design anymore, wanted to do something different. That was it I had a design block on this one. Left it, did other cakes, went to Melbourne for a holiday, still didn’t know what to do, Got back from Melbourne, became sick( flu and sinus) still thinking of what to do. Baked the cakes just in case I wouldn’t have enough time. Three days before it was due I sort of had a vague idea and kind of developed on it. Literally after two sleepless nights, working through the day and night and getting frustrated and crying in between (oooops…) because one of the legs was curving and breaking( ‘cos I didn’t allow enough time for it to dry before attaching), had to redo the legs again :-) and the dress was tearing ( tooo hot in Sydney and the fondant was getting too soft), had to redo the dress again!!!. Wasn’t very happy with the detailed finish and the proportions, but didn’t have the time to fix it. Okay … Okay enough of my SOB story boring you to bits ….... :-), this is what I came up with in the end :-) “A chubby little artist doll being very messy trying to draw and putting paint everywhere, even inside the cake, not being very happy with her drawing and throwing everything she has drawn and holding onto the ones she likes”. My niece loved it, kept hugging me and thanking me at the party and got an email from her this morning too . That made my day and well worth all my sob story. Thank you so much for looking and for your wonderful support. P.S. This is the third time I am using this board with the support, such a versatile board, first was for the Star wars angry birds stacked cake, then it was Simon the chipmunk and now this. Thank you Verusca Walker for the initial Inspiration with the stacked cakes. Back in July when I was doing the chipmunk cake I initially wanted to raise the cake so that Alvin now Simon can stand on his legs but didn’t have the confidence then but after seeing Ana Remigio’s Minnie Mouse, I thought I will try the leg bit. So thank you so much Ana :-). She stands about 45cm high with her body made of Vegetarian Chocolate cake and the cushion seat made of plain butter cake. Frozen : Princess Elsa And Olaf
My daughter’s birthday party was supposed to have been this weekend but has been postponed to next month but I couldn’t wait till then , so I thought I will post two of the toppers I had done for the cake to know what you think about it and whether they need any improvement now that I have some more time :-). She wanted a princess cake, hence Princess Elsa… from FROZEN :-) Thank you for your support and encouragement and Thank you for looking

Forty And Fabulous
Lace, handmade figurine, orange, black, inspired by a Kebaya, rose, 40th birthday cake
This is Theodore the Chipmunk, My first Standup Figure carved out of cake , he is about 40+cm (16 inches) high and a bit on the plump side especially the bottom half ;-) , that’s why he became Theodore instead of Alvin. The head is RKT and the rest is cake. This is the second birthday cake I did in the mist of organising the family birthday lunch for my darling son.
Stacked Star Wars Angry Birds Cake
I was so inspired by Verusca’s lovely Stacked cakes , I simply had to try one out myself ;-). It didn’t turn out as great as hers , since it was my first time I hope :-) and also I had to transport it to the birthday party venue I played it safe and didn’t really give it much of a tilt. So this is my take on a stacked cake : Star Wars Angry Birds “Red Skywalker” stamping on “Lard Varder” till he sees “STARS”, with “Princess Stella Organa” and “Chuck “Ham” Solo” for company. It is about 50 cm high. Hope you like it. Red Skywalker , Lard Varder and the base are made of cake while Chuck and Princess were made with RKT. This was done for my darling son for his class birthday party. Initially I was not going to do Angry Birds (had already done one for my hubby (Stiched with love ) last year and I was sort of over it) but persistent nagging from December 2012 by you know who and love eventually made me give in :-).
Princess And Chuck.....
Starting pieces of my Star Wars Angry birds cake, Will upload the cake shortly. To me they both look like a bride and a groom that I simply had to load them separately :-).... Hope you all don't mind me doing that Made with RKT and fondant.
