Blue Heron
This weekend I went to the National Capital Area Cake show. I entered in the showpiece division a isomalt piece. Unfortunately my piece broke in transit. I thankfully had pictures and was able to put them out for the judges to see. I ended up getting 2nd place. I was told by the judges it would have been 1st if it wasn’t broken.

Carnival Mask
I had the pleasure of being a part of the Carnival Cakers. The last photo was my inspiration. When I first saw it I knew I wanted to attempt my first bust cake so I searched the internet on how to do a bust. I came across a tutorial on using a styrofoam head on top of a single tiered cake.I thought that was ingenious and tried my hand at that. I also tried using gold leaf for the very first time. I also took this cake to the National Capital Area Cake Show last weekend and received 2nd place in the Semi Professional division.

La Muerte's Pumpkin (Showpiece)
2 weekends ago I went to the Great American Cake Show. I decided to enter my first wedding cake ever. The theme of the wedding cake division was “Death Becomes Them”. I immediately thought about my La Muerte figure I has created for the Sugar Skulls Baker 2016 collaboration. I know had my bride and needed a groom. Jack came to mind so I decided to merge the world of Nightmare Before Christmas and The Book of Life. I was so excited and honored to have won first place in the Beginner to Advanced division. The bottom tier is Halloween Town and the stairs take you up to the Land of the Remembered with the Tree of Life. The each lion head on the top tier was created by hand. The blocks for the top 2 tiers were individually hand cut and place on the cake. Now I know what it feels like to do a mine craft cake.

Chihily Collaboration 2015
I’m honored to be part of this celebration of Dale Chihuly’s 75th birthday! My piece was a combination of 2 of his pieces and was completely made out of Simi Isomalt and a Simi Transfer Sheet for the base. I created my own impression mat for the wood grain of the boat. I hope you enjoy my piece and all the other pieces. Tiffany Lamp
I created this Tiffany lamp for the National Capital Area Cake show back in April. You can’t see in the pictures but after I photographed it and stored it until the show the piece had some issues. The lamp shade warped and when I went to fix it, it cracked. I was still fortunate enough to get 3rd place for this piece. I didn’t post it until now because i was not sure if I was going to redo it for another show. The piece is completely made of Simi Cakes and Confections Isomalt. I pulled and shaped all the pieces that make up the stained glass. The base of the lamp is poured into a mold created from a candle stick holder. I used a floral light to give the impression the lamp is turned on. I hope you like it.

Santa's Passport Collaboration - France
I created this piece for the Santa's Passport Collaboration ( https://www.facebook.com/santaspassport2015/?fref=ts ). Each artist chose a country to represent Santa delivering gifts in clothing of the country on Christmas Eve. I chose France and created a French County Living Room and of course Santa is wearing his Beret and Mime clothing. The entire piece is made from fondant with a few accents of isomalt. The christmas tree is royal icing.

Ballerina - Competition Piece
I actually took this cake to 2 competitions. I originally took it to the Great American Cake Show in Maryland back in October (The last photo). The cake got 2nd place, so I talked with the judges to find out what I could have done better. I took their suggestions and redid the skirt of the piece and added the tiara. I took it to the White Rose Cake Show in York PA in the beginning of November. This time I fort 1st place. I drew the ballerina on the cake with individual dots using white food gel. The first skirt was made out of cake lace. When I redid the skirt I used fondant with an accent of lace. I painted on the pattern to the skirt. The tiara is hand shaped isomalt and the roses are made from wafer paper.

Peacock Shoe
I was fortunate to be asked to join the Walk on the Wild Side Collaboration. This collaboration was 36 incredible women from around the world each designing an amazing shoe. I have always wanted to try to do a peacock cake/cookie something so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to make it. I used wafer paper for the feathers and hand dusted the entire shoe. The feathers on the toes and buckle are made from isomalt and fondant. Check out all the other amazing shoes at https://www.facebook.com/pages/A-Walk-On-The-Wild-Side/1053522114677781?fref=ts
