Black Roses - A Hand-Painted Cake
I finally got to do a black rose cake! This is my third painted rose cake, and I used food colors and vodka to paint on the fondant (with a paint brush). The 3d roses and leaves are made from gumpaste. I absolutely love painting roses, and was glad to get some more practice with it! Thank you for looking.

My Daughter's Beach Cake
This beach themed cake was created for my daughter Jasmine's 9th birthday. We had her party at her favorite place - a lake that she refers to as 'the beach', so she wanted a beach cake with a sand castle and a figure of her on it. The sand castle is made from rice cereal treats with crushed cookies and brown sugar for sand. The girl, bucket, and shovel are made from gumpaste. I used a mold for the starfish and shells - those are fondant. The cake is frosted with buttercream, and I also added some wave detail at the bottom using fondant and royal icing. Jasmine wanted her favorite ice cream flavors in the cake - so it is coffee chocolate chip cake, filled with vanilla buttercream and chunks of no-bake chocolate chip cookie dough. We had a fabulous day at 'the beach' and all the kids got a kick out of picking off the shells and eating them! :)

Beatrix Potter Guinea Pig Cake
I was totally floored when I was asked to submit a cake for Cake Central Magazine! This was published in Volume 4 – issue 6. I was given the theme of Cecily Parsley’s Nursery Rhymes by Beatrix Potter to use as inspiration. I loved the poems with the gardening guinea pigs the best, and I wanted to tell the story of these guys on this cake. Each tier is hand painted using food colors. All of the guinea pigs are sculpted from gumpaste and hand painted, as well as the wheel barrow, watering can, veggies, fence, flowers and greenery. When I was carrying it outside, I broke the little guy’s shovel – I was so mad at myself! But luckily I got a shot of it inside. I love the outdoor pic the best though :)

A Dark Birthday Cake
A very different cake that I created for a young man turning 15. I was asked to make something dark, inspired by his interests, which included scary movies and Stephen King novels. The tree is hand painted gumpaste over a wire frame. I also sculpted the raven from gumpaste. The rock work on the bottom was created from rice cereal treats, covered with fondant. I created texture on the fondant with royal icing, and then hand painted all the colors and also the black vines. The main vine in the middle is gumpaste. I used a mold for the fondant skulls – I would’ve driven myself crazy making all those from scratch! I had fun hacking them up and embedding them in the ‘rock’ at different angles, lol. I am really loving painting on cakes, and am always amazed at how color transforms everything. This cake was all white at one point, and I was afraid of not getting the depth that I wanted into it, but seriously love how it turned out. Each cake I do teaches me something! The top tier was lemon cake with lemon buttercream filling, and the bottom tier was chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream filling. I enjoyed creating this cake, and am glad it was well received!

Pink Poodle Birthday Cake
I made this cake for my niece Allison’s 4th birthday. She’s such a cutie – so sassy and spunky! And she loves poodles and the color pink! I always have to do something extra girly for her. It is strawberry pound cake, filled with strawberry buttercream, and frosted with vanilla buttercream. I made the bow and poodle from gumpaste, and also painted the poodle’s features, and added some dots for a little extra detail.

My Wedding Cake Inspired By Georgia O'keeffe
I was asked to create a non-traditional wedding cake that was colorful, and inspired by one of the bride's favorite artists - Georgia O'Keeffe. I drew inspiration from several of O'Keeffe's paintings. I tried a few new things with this wedding cake, including sculpting a cow skull from modeling chocolate. I created the morning glories and leaves from gumpaste. The tree was made from modeling chocolate. I also tried my hand at painting a landscape - inspired by O'Keeffe's love of Mount Pedernal, where her ashes were scattered. Before painting the cake, I textured it with royal icing. I wasn't sure about how all of this would come together, but I really loved it in the end.

My First Wedding Cake - Vintage Style
I created this cake for my lovely sister Roxanna and her husband Roy. Her wedding theme was vintage, and her colors were ivory and wine. She really loved the hand-painted roses that I did on another cake, so I incorporated that into this one, but made them quite a bit larger this time. The bottom two tiers are covered in buttercream ruffles. I made the tea cup from gumpaste and then hand painted roses on it as well. I also made the other roses from gumpaste. The pearl border is fondant. The cake flavors were cookies and cream filled with cookies and cream buttercream, and then chocolate cake filled with chocolate buttercream and ganache. This is the largest cake I’ve made to date, and I traveled with the entire cake stacked – so thank you to my husband for carrying and transporting the cake – he always makes me feel like we can do anything – such a strong, soothing and supporting person! Don’t know what I’d do without him! Thank you for looking!

Graboid Attack!
I made this graboid cake for my son Logan’s 12th birthday. He has been obsessed with the movie series for a few years now. The graboid is a rkt/modeling chocolate/gumpaste sculpture. I did use wire to help support the beak and also in the tongues. The cake is chocolate and it is filled with caramel buttercream and a salted caramel drizzle. The cake is covered with fondant. The letters, boards, arm, and hat are gumpaste. The hardest part of the cake was sculpting the graboid, but the second hardest was all the painting! I do not own an airbrush, and instead of coloring my fondant, I hand painted it all with paint brushes and food colors. He loved the cake, and refused to eat the graboid – he wants to keep it as long as he can! :) Thank you for looking!

My Kraken Cake
Release the Kraken! Lol :) The sea beast has ripped the boat in half and is dragging the remains down into the churning sea. My oldest son has been wanting me to do this cake for a while. So this is for him. He helped with the design and told me how he wanted all the tentacles on there and even helped me stamp out all of the suction cups. Vanilla cake with fudge filling, detailed with fondant, modeling chocolate, royal icing, and piping gel. Thanks for looking!

My Monster High Bed Cake
For my niece - a huge Monster High fan. The cake flavor was orange vanilla filled with chocolate buttercream and a chocolate ganache drizzle. The cake is detailed with a fondant/modeling chocolate blend on the sides in a quilted pattern, and has a buttercream 'shag carpet' on the top. The curtains, blanket, and pillow are fondant. The bed is made from rkt, chocolate, and fondant. The bed frame is actually constructed from wooden dowels. I then applied modeling chocolate over the frame, detailed it, and then finished with edible gold spray.
