Pumpkin Spice cake decorated with crusting cream cheese icing. The pumpkin is covered in Modelling chocolate. All other details are either painted or made from modelling chocolate. The birch tree stump is made completely from crusting cream cheese icing and carved and apinted on to formbark curls and edges.
Lady Bug Cake - Pink And Brown
A dear friend of mine (we've been friends since grade school) asked me if I could help her out by making a sheet cake for her daughter's 1st birthday. I told her I would make the cake as a gift and that I would design something wonderful. The theme she gave me was pink and brown lady bug so i ran with it. It was a hit. The smaller one was the baby's smash cake. This is chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream filling and chocolate buttercream frosting. Fondant accents for the wings. The board is RI. Thanks for looking! :)
Valentines Cookie Bouquet
A cookie bouquet I made recently. I used it as a sample for a Project Class I was teaching. I like how it turned out even though a couple of the cookies were damaged in their travels. February 12, 2011
Christmas Wreath Cake
I made this cake as a my contribution to the dessert table at my husband's family potluck for Christmas Day. All decoration is piped in buttercream. I sprinkled a tiny bit of gold hologram dust over the poinsettias for a glittery effect.
Christmas Nativity Cake
I made this cake for my daughter's classroom Christmas potluck party. I was asked to bring a dessert for 70 to 80 people (students and their guests) and naturally I took it as an excuse to decorate a cake. LOL. Each tier was a different flavor. The cake had a light sprinkling of hologram dust and the gold "dots" were actually hologram dust that really sparkled. Unfortunately the camera just does not capture those details. :( Thank you for looking! Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to everyone!
Christmas Angel Cake
I made this cake during a demo. I wanted to try for a stained glass effect. I am happy with the end result although there are a couple of things I would change if I were to do it again.
Here are some cookies from my learning process of cookie decorating. Thanks for looking. I am having fun learning these new techniques.
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town Cookie Bouquet
This is the first cookie bouquet I have ever made. I have learned a lot about cookies this season and I think they might be a new thing for me. LOL. I need more practice but I thought they turned out pretty good considering it is a new style of decorating for me. I matched them to the mug in color choices.
Basketweave And Roses
This is a cake I made during a demo. I wanted to draw attention and piping basketweave always draws a crowd for some reason. I decided to go with a blue and yellow theme and I love how this cake turned out.
A friend of mine asked if I could help her out by making a cake for her Aunt's birthday. She brought me a picture that she liked and I asked what it was that she really liked about the cake and then I changed things that I could while still keeping the main elements. I really like the end result. I am not sure where the original cake image came from but if it is a cake on Cake Central - I thank you for the inspiration! WASC cake with homemade raspberry filling.
Christmas Baby Cake Topper
I designed this cake topper for a demo I was teaching on how to use the baby mold and create a christmas themed topper for a cake. It was a lot of fun and turned out really well. Everything is gumpaste and fondant with the exception of the cardboard cake circle that it is all sitting on.
Christmas Ornament Cake
Christmas Ornament Cake - This is a cake dummy I made for a Demo I was teaching on how to cover a spherical cake with fondant and how to use a ball pan to create a Christmas Ornament Cake. I freehanded the scroll work and was just happy it turned out well during the demo.
My daughter's birthday came with the request for a bowling cake that was for a girl - she decided it must have a girl on it who was bowling. LOL. She drew me many pictures of what she wanted and I improvised from there. There was a lot I wanted to try on this cake but time constraints dictated a simpler approach. So many things happening this time of year. FIrst time I made WASC cake and I must say - I now understand why it is so popular - YUM. I tried indydebi's buttercream for the first time and found I needed to add more shortening as I live in a very dry climate and it was crusting too much but the end result was nothing short of fabulous. I usually do not use fondant on children's cake but I knew it would give me the best look for the bowling lane and I really wanted to try my new wood impression mat. So since I had fondant I went with it. Funny thing is most of the kids ate the fondant and left the cake. Lol. WASC (vanilla) with a layer of chocolate cake sandwiched in between with indydebi's buttercream filling and icing, covered in fondant.
This is a cake made for my Mother's Birthday. I know this design using the roulette cookies has been done a lot but I have always wanted to make one and this was my chance. A lot of firsts with this cake. Being a hobby baker I usually try something new on every cake I make. LOL. First time making plumeria flowers - I have seen a number of examples popping up on the home page recently and they inspired me to try. Thank you for the inspiraton to all those posting plumerias lately. FIrst time making this type of cake and filling and working with the cookies. I let my 5 and 7 year olds help me color the flowers. Thay wanted to help with Grandma's cake and I think they did a fabulous job. Only a few got eaten during the process. Citrus Chiffon Cake with berry cream filling. Thanks for looking!
I made this cake for my Father's birthday. I chose to use a fishing theme as it is one of his favorite things to do. I also decided to try something new - or rather a couple of new techniques. This was my first time making and using a poured ganache and SMBC. I learned a lot but am quite happy with the end result (although I still see all the flaws LOL.) Ginger cake with SMBC filling and ganache covering. Thanks for looking!
My son was a huge fan of the movie Cars and especially liked Lightening McQueen. I decided to try my hand at carving. I think it turned out pretty good for my first try at sculpting. I forgot to put a board under the cake so I was unable to move it to a clean board after airbrushing it. I also wanted to finish the deatails in fondant but ran out of time. I learned that I need to do a little more planning ahead on cakes. LOL.
I wanted to make a cake for my husbands family for Christmas Day. I finished making these on Christmas Eve. I discovered that covering spherical shapes in fondant is not that easy but I was getting better at it by the third one.
This cake was for my Dad. His passion is diving and he loves to go to Cozumel on vacation so I thought this would be a nice cake for him. It is covered in cream cheese icing which I tried to texture to give the illusion of currents in the water. The cake is airbrused. The sand on top is crushed graham crackers and the rocks are chocolate. I piped a few clam shells and corral onto the sides.
Webkinz Themed Cake
This cake was made for my daughter's birthday. I was up until 5:30 am finishing it for her, grabbed 2 hours sleep and then up to get everything ready for her party. It was my first attempt at making a topsy turvy style cake. The color flow animals came out a little larger than I thought but overall I was happy with the end result of this cake.
Pink And White Doll Cake
This cake was made for one of my daughters best friends. All of the decorating is done in buttercream with a few fondant/gumpaste details. They asked if I could make a pink and white princess cake and this is what I came up with. I used some sparkle dusts and pearl dusts for accents.
Girly Car Cake
Here is a cake I made on the theme I was given - Girly Auto Mechanic. There was supposed to be a gumpaste figurine of a girl wearing a dress and reaching under the hood with a wrench in hand but the doll wouldn't cooperate and got trashed.
10" round chocolate cake (bottom) 6" round chocolate (top) off set. Plastic animal figurines and trees. Airbrushed with piped details. Made for my daughter's birthday party.
Mountain Fishing Cake
This is my first cake with my airbrush - my newest tool! I piped the fisherman and boat. Ginger cake with cream cheese icing.
6" round white chocolate cake with fresh strawberry filling. Buttercream icing. Airbrushed. I made the elephant myself.
Asian Themed Wedding With A Celtic Twist
i made this one for my sister's wedding. She was having a theme wedding but wanted a bit of the irish heritage of the groom added into the cake. The bottom layer was 6" tall ginger cake and the other layers were 5" tall decadent chocolate. All iced in butterscotch flavored buttercream and covered in homemade fondant. Fondant was not cooperating as it was a modified recipe using agar-agar instead of knox gelatin. It definately made a difference in workability and wasn't as smooth as I would have liked.
This cake was for my daughter's 4th birthday. She is very into princesses and actually had the theme of Cinderella for her party. I ran out of time on this one and I wish I could have done everything I wanted to do to it but it still turned out pretty good. The carriage platform and wheels were made of rice crispie treats (a first for me but I think I will use them again in the future.) The ball cake is a chocolate cake. The princess is a mini wondermold.
