25Th Wedding Anniversary
6"/10"/14" tiers. Buttercream with scroll piping. All gumpaste flowers. The tail end of the airplane is gumpaste as are the bullets. The wife likes flowers and gardening, the husband retired from the military and enjoys shooting guns.
Each number started as a quarter sheet cake. Each cake is a different flavor - vanilla, chocolate, red velvet and banana chocolate chip. This was a challenge!
Queen Of Hearts
This is a half sheet cake, two layers. The queen of hearts is all buttercream. I have gotten really good at smoothing FBCTs!!
Green Fancy Birthday
10" round. Buttercream. Pearl clay pearls attached with a little buttercream. Gumpaste bow. Gumpaste wine glass.
Blue Field Hockey Birthday
The birthday girl wanted something to do with her field hockey team on her cake. So, used her logo and continued the colors around the cake. All buttercream except the flowers. Inspiration for the side was from another person here on cakecentral.
50Th Birthday Chicken Cake
This is a cake that I did for a good friend of ours who turned 50. The chicken is a round cake with RKT neck and head and tail. The feathers are fondant in different shades of brown. Just attached them with a little buttercream. The bottom cake is a 10" round cake with buttercream icing. The "icons" about our friend are all of fondant. He lives in an old farmhouse that his brother and sister-in-law own. The brother and SIL live in the city, but wanted "organic" eggs, so guess where the chickens ended up and who is taking care of??? You got it....and he hates those chickens! Hope you like!!
Columbus Blue Jackets Birthday Cake
This cake is for a friend's son's birthday. He wanted the Columbus Blue Jackets Third Jersey logo. I sort of cringed when I saw it - because it was a little detailed and I did not know if my hand would be that steady. Besides that, these are good friends of ours so I volunteered to make this as our gift to their son, as long as the cake wasn't too big and elaborate. I am really trying to drum up business right now too (just started my own cake business about a month ago), so the more cakes I can get out their, the better. Referrals have already started. Anyway....this is a chocolate cake with a frozen buttercream transfer. This was my first attempt at this technique and I kind of like it, especially for those detailed sort of things. It is pretty easy and fairly quick to do. If you can trace over a line, you can pretty much do this. A couple of notes that I might try differently - first, I froze mine in between doing different parts so that my lines wouldn't move too much (suggestion I saw from IndyDeb). That was great, but next time I might use parchment paper instead of wax paper - the wax paper curled/crinkled a little while in the freezer. As said from other posts, these do come out a little thick. So, next time I will be sure to spend more time making sure the exposed edges are clean and neat or else I will make sure the whole top of the cake is a complete transfer. This turned out fine in the end, but I had to use a much larger shell border than I normally use and I had to move it in a little to cover the raw edges. Finally, I might try all high ratio shortening (I used half butter/half shortening). The white, even with white white added, looks a little dingy to me. Just my experience. I have a Justin Bieber cake to do for Monday, so I think I might try the same thing with it and try the different techniques.
Noah's Ark Baby Shower
quarter sheet cake. The theme was Noah's Ark for the baby's room and shower. I looked all over for ideas and found a lot with the actual Ark made of cake/RKT. I new this client didn't want to pay for all that work, so I found inspiration online for handmade animal heads. So sorry, forgot who made the ones that I used for inspiration. I thought this was along the same lines as Noah's Ark, but simple and pretty. Animal heads are fondant.
Pittsburgh Teams Birthday Cake
This was a cake done for one of my daugther's gymnastics coaches. He loves anything Pittsburgh, as he is from there. So we surprised him after practice with a cake. The logos were clipart I found online. I cut them out and used them to hand pipe the logos on the cake.
Small Birthday Cake And Matching Cupcake Tower
This was for my daughter's gymnastics coach's 21st birthday. The cake is a I believe a 6 inch cake. The "21" is made of gumpaste and sprinkled with silver disco dust. The cupcakes are chocolate and some white cake with matching purple buttercream and silver dragees.
Welcome To Las Vegas Birthday
This was a birthday cake for a man headed to Las Vegas with his wife for his birthday. Their daughter sent them to Las Vegas as a gift, and she wanted a small cake so they could celebrate his actual birthday before they left for Vegas. This one was a quick turn around.
Hello Kitty Birthday
This was for a 13 year old's birthday. She loves Hello Kitty. Yellow cake with real buttercream filling and buttercream (all shortening) for the outside, that way it was white, white.
Teenage Girl's Birthday
This cake was for a 13 year old girl. She wanted bright colors and liked fondant. White cake with real buttercream underneath. Just let me say that buttercream with all real butter (no shortening) is DELISH! I usually don't care to eat the icing or the cake after I have had my hands in it all day, but this stuff was really good! The idea was inspired by a similar cake from Andrea Sullivan.
Great Grandmother Birthday
This was for my husband's great grandmother. She turned 95! The dots on the side about killed my hand, but I made it through without stopping for any long period of time.
Final Class Cake
This was the final cake I did for the Wilton Course 3 class (before they changed to the newer classes). Roses are handmade with fondant mixed with gumtex. Cake is covered in fondant with fondant flowers. Ruffles are handpiped. I was quite proud of this cake - hated to cut into it.
Ladybug Birthday Cake
This was inspired by the Wilton yearbook. This is the daisy pan. I changed up the colors of the ladybugs. Matching cupcakes. Chocolate cake and white cupcakes.
Hamburgers And Fries
This was for a 15 year old's birthday. Cupcake buns with brownie hamburger patties. French Fries are sugar cookies. Ketchup, mustard and lettuce are buttercream.
Gymnastics Year End Banquet 2010
This is a cake I did for my daughter's year end banquet for gymnastics. It was a big hit and my first big stacked/topsy turvy cake. The gymnasts were gumpaste - I just found clip art and used the clip art as my stencil. The rest is fondant and edible silver paint and edible silver glitter. Thanks for looking!
