Half Choc/half Vanilla Birthday Cake
Birthday cake that's one side chocolate and one side vanilla. Both with raspberry filling. I baked one layer of each flavor then cut them in half and stacked on top of each other. Can't say both cakes were even when I started, but they were when I finished. One side iced in chocolate buttercream, the other in regular buttercream and topped with fondant green, white and chocolate dots. The attempt was to make it look like one cake and I think I succeeded!

Jungle Baby Shower
Jungle baby shower cake. Chocolate buttercream bottom tier with whipped ganache filling, top tier vanilla cake with raspberry filling. Fondant decor. My second giraffe to do and I think it turned out lots better than my first attempt. Inspiration from a CC'er here who's name I can't remember...!

Victorian Bird Cage
A cake for my sister in law. Strawberry cake with white chocolate/strawberry buttercream filling and frosted with regular buttercream. The modeling chocolate decor was brushed with gold to get the metal look. Gum paste flowers and butterflies. I've been wanting to do a bird cage for a while. Lots of inspiration on here. I used one of Wilton's silicone molds for the ornate decor. It was fun, but took a long time!

Fairy Cake With Tree Trunk House
A fairy cake I made for a friend of mine's daughter's 4th birthday. French vanilla with chocolate buttercream frosting. My first fairy! I made the wings out of gelatin and edged them in gold and sprinkled lots of disco dust to make them sparkle. The side trunks on the tree are made of cake that I compressed (like a cake ball) and molded to shape like tree trunks. (Much tastier than Rice Crispy treats!) I coated everything with chocolate buttercream to make it look like bark and tried to channel my inner Hobbit with decor. Lots of inspiration on CC and elsewhere. The little girl loved it and I loved making it.

40Th Birthday/first Marathon Cake For Man
This was a labor...emphasis on labor...of love for my daughter's friend's husband who was turning 40 on the day he ran his first marathon...the Route 66 marathon in Tulsa. The assignment was to celebrate his running and all the aspects of his life. So I came up with a spiral cake (my first) that showed a road and along the road were signposts depicting points in his life along the way. Lots of gum paste and fondant signage including the logo at the top. My first time making a figure like this. Good thing the logo was big enough to hide the bottom portion of it! He was floored. It was a surprise from his wife and he enjoyed going through his life in gum paste and cake! The spiral cake is surprisingly easy to do and I covered it in buttercream...including the road. Bottom cake is chocolate with ganache filling and top is French Vanilla with raspberry.

Autumn Leaves, Fall Birthday Cake
Re-posting after accidentally deleting instead of editing photo! Birthday cake for my next door neighbor. Chocolate with raspberry and chocolate mousse filling. Chocolate buttercream is coated in chocolate ganache. Modeling chocolate leaves around sides are brushed with mahogany pearl dust that made the prettiest copper color. Gum paste leaves and acorns are painted with gel food coloring on top. Sprinkled with copper disco dust for a little shine that really does not show up in picture.

Pea In The Pod Baby Shower Cake
I've been wanting to do this cake since I saw Bates123 post it on CC a while ago. I just wish I hadn't been throwing the baby shower as well because there were so many little details I wanted to put in that I didn't have time to! But the mom to be loved it and that was the main goal. Strawberry/vanilla marble cake with cheesecake filling on bottom tier. French vanilla with whipped chocolate ganache on 2nd tier and french vanilla with lemon curd filling on top tier. Buttercream frosted and fondant decor with modeling chocolate pea pod baby topper. 9", 7", 5" sizes

Polka Dots With Quilled Flowers
I've been wanting to do this cake since I first saw a version here on CC a couple of years ago! French vanilla with Bavarian cream filling. The initial topper is gum paste as are most of the flowers. Green disco dust on the initial. Fondant polka dots. I love the quilling technique. It is incredibly easy...everyone should try it sometime. In fact I made a ton of different shapes earlier in the week...only problem was, they were too stiff and difficult to attach to the sides of the cake! And I had no room at the base of the board to 'sit' them. I ended up making all new stuff the day the cake was due! At least I'll have some interesting stuff to add to a sheet cake! Hope you like the cake. It was fun to do. Any and all comments appreciated and welcome! (CSM)

Baby Boy All-Star Shower
A mom-to-be liked a baby shower cake I had done earlier for my daughter's friend and she wanted the same look...a baby peeking out of a gift box. Only this one was to be a sports theme. Baby head, hat, filler paper and bow made of gum paste. Stripes and stars made of fondant. French vanilla cake with raspberry filling. Someone else brought cake balls shaped like baseballs, footballs and such. They loved the cake and I was happy to do it for them.

Indian Pottery Bowl Cake With Flowers
I did this cake for a friend of mine's wife. He wanted it to reflect her love of flowers, her Indian heritage and her obsession for corn...apparently she eats it at every meal! So here it is! My Indian Bowl/flower/corn cake! It is chocolate cake, chocolate buttercream with caramel, pecan and chocolate ganache filling. Fondant decor with hand made gum paste flowers. This is the first time I covered my board and I like the look. The white flowers are supposed to be Cherokee roses...well, they're my interpretation of them anyway! Oh...and I made the corn by smushing some cake trimmings and forming the shape of an ear of corn. I frosted it with buttercream and then added Jelly Belly jelly beans for the kernels. They weren't yellow enough so I brushed them with some gel food coloring and vodka. Covered with green fondant and voila! Ear of corn! Would love comments! CSM

Baby Gender Reveal Cake
Done for a friend of mine who had a party for her family to reveal the baby's sex. The mother-to- be wanted Chocolate cake with whipped ganache filling so I made that the bottom cake (two 9x13's) with chocolate buttercream. The 'gift' box on top was the cake that held the answer. French vanilla with pink buttercream mixed with raspberry filling. Comments appreciated!

Baby Shower Cake
Cake for my friend's daughter's baby shower. I had actually been the one to give my friend her baby shower for her daughter 28 years ago...made the cake then too, however it was just a sheet cake then with my attempt at piping pink flowers around the edge. I told them I wanted to come full circle and do the cake for HER baby now. It was designed based on the invitations sent. Bottom tier is 4 layer, light and dark chocolate cake with whipped chocolate ganache filling...(mom-to-be is a choco-holic). Top tier was french vanilla cake with raspberry filling. All buttercream frosting with fondant decor. Made the topper out of gum paste.

Ballerina Barbie Princess Cake
CSM: First time doing a Barbie Princess cake and it was so much fun. French vanilla cake with lemon filling. I used a 7" round pan, plus a stainless steel bowl and topped that with a round sports ball top. This doll was TALL! I embossed the buttercream with a floral stamp and placed a purple fondant skirt over that. Fondant hot pink bow. The little girl wanted shiny and sparkly so I added bling to her name and the bow and the base of the cake (non-edible). Then I dusted liberally with disco dust. Her eyes were huge when she I delivered it. so it made it all worthwhile. Any and all comments and critiques would be appreciated! Thanks for looking.

Jungle Theme Baby Shower Sheet Cake
CSM: Friend of my daughter was throwing a baby shower for her sister and she wanted a cake that she felt she could deliver out of town so we went with a 9 x 13 two layer (not torted--2 separate layers) cake with a jungle theme to coordinate with an invitation. Apparently the unborn child has been called 'Bud' so we had fun with that. Chocolate with whipped chocolate ganache filling and chocolate buttercream. Lots of pregnant girls at the shower who love chocolate apparently! I wish I could say this was a fun cake to do, but I was exhausted and had put off coloring my fondant so I was up very late. Plus the buttercream kept getting soft and I had to keep going back and forth to the fridge! Long night. But my daughter's friend loved it.

Boys Birthday Flat Brim Ball Cap/ Colorado Rockies
I don't know why this is so blue in the picture but in real life this is as purple as can be! Birthday cake for friend's son who has a hat just like this. His initials are in the Colorado Rockie's type face and logo style. Strawberry cake with a cheese cake as filling. Butter cream frosting. I only add the color BC at the end so it's not solid purple frosting! Gum paste flat brim. Typical ball cap cake, but my very first.

Dallas Mavericks Basketball Cake
CSM: I did this for my friend's son's birthday and he is a Maverick fan. The cake is strawberry with an actual cheesecake for filling and buttercream frosting. Thought I'd make it look like a basketball hoop-- at least that was the attempt. Instead of making the cake dark and strings white , I opted to make the net dark blue and I'm afraid it gave more of a 'drum' look than a basketball hoop look. Those fondant strings kept breaking!!. First time I've covered the cake board with fondant and painted it to look like a wood floor. The Maverick's logo I did out of gum paste. That I thought turned out pretty well. Wish I could say it was a fun cake to do, but it was on the verge of being a cake-tastrophe! For some reason my cake...even cold...was very soft. It even tilted! Glad to get this one out the door while the strings were hangin' on! Comments on what I could have done better and how to do it will be appreciated!

Baby Shower Cake With Jungle Theme
A cake inspired by the invitation. 9" bottom tier is chocolate cake, choc BC and whipped chocolate ganache filling. Top tier is 7" and is French vanilla with strawberry filling. Gumpaste and fondant decor. Gumpaste giraffe was not my favorite so I avoided doing any more jungle animals and concentrated instead on the colors and flowers.

Leopard Print Birthday Cake For Friend.
A direct steal of CC member AngFox design. Loved it so much I had to try it. Leopard print is gel food coloring painted on buttercream. I also dusted gold on the leopard spots...they're showing up as just a light color but they look pretty in real life. Gum paste bow and roses. French vanilla cake with raspberry filling. I used 8", 7 and 6" and carved to get the inverted look. I learned I hate to carve cakes! Too many crumbs. But, a fun cake.

Sports Birthday Cake
My son in law coaches soccer so of course his birthday cake needed to reflect that! His favorite carrot cake in both the ball and the bottom cake. All iced in cream cheese buttercream with the black squares...or whatever they're called on the soccer ball...made of black fondant. This is the second sports related cake I've done this week. I'm ready for polka dots and flowers again!
