'spaghetti' Cake
My daughter always loved spaghetti when she was a child, so I thought I'd bring back memories with a spaghetti cake. Chocolate cake with choc buttercream filling, frosted in whipped ganache, and coated with a glaze of choc ganache, buttercream 'noodles', Fererro Roche meatballs and strawberry 'sauce'. The inspiration comes from Hello Cupcake and I was lucky enough to see the authors up close and personal at the OK Sugar Art Show. They demonstrated their spaghetti cupcakes and it inspired me to do this little 6" torted one layer cake.

Sheet Cake
I hate having to use my camera phone--it's so blurry! That being said,this is a half chocolate, half vanilla 'sheet' cake (two 9" cakes put together) with raspberry filling for a morning- after- the- wedding party. The frosting is chocolate and vanilla buttercream with fondant flowers in Fall colors to help hide the less-than-perfect line down the center. I debated posting it because of the bad picture, but I was proud of the writing I did. Practice and a buttercream class is paying off!

Chocolate Strawberry Cake
A cake for my best friend who loves chocolate covered strawberries. Strawberry cake with whipped chocolate ganache filling, buttercream frosting with chocolate ganache dripping off the top and of course, chocolate covered strawberries on top. Red 'B' covered with red disco dust just to give it bling. She loved it.

Yellow Cake With White Cascading Flowers
This is a cake I made as a thank you for friends of ours. It's a 6 inch lemon cake with lemon curd filling and lemon buttercream. The flowers are fondant and painted with pearl lustre dust. I left the dome on the cake after it baked to give height for the flowers.

Uncle Sam Hat Cake
Well, apparently I wiped out my gallery entry from a couple of days ago, so I am re-entering it. This is the cake I did for my friend's 4th of July party. It's two cakes (3-layers each) stacked on top of each other with buttercream background and fondant stripes and stars. The top tier is 10" rounds and the second is 9" rounds. My carving techniques leave a lot to be desired, but fortunately Buttercream and fondant can cover a myriad of mistakes! :) The firecracker topper is an idea I totally stole (but did not do as well ) from fellow cc'er tcam and who, along with PDXsweettreats, advised me on how to curl wire without crimping. Thanks. The big firecracker and small firecrackers are fondant and the fondant balls on the wires are dusted with red, white and blue disco dust. The cake is alternating layers of strawberry and french vanilla with strawberry filling. The cake was a huge hit and the best part is, people said it tasted even better.

Wedding Shower 3 Tier Cake
This cake was designed to coordinate with the invitations of the shower. The butterflies were made of gum paste and lightly lustre dusted with pearl and then lightly dusted with gold and purple disco dust. It has a sugar coated look to them that doesn't show up well in the photos. Why the darker butterflies look blue instead of deep purple I don't know. Anyway, the cake is 3 tiers of vanilla with raspberry filling and buttercream icing.

1St Anniversary Top Tier Cake
The bakery that did my daughter's wedding cake closed shop, so my daughter asked me to do the top tier of her wedding cake for her first anniversary. Fortunately I had worked there at the time--not as a baker or decorator--and while there, learned a lot through observation. She had chosen a 4-tier Ron Ben Isreal design which was originally purple, white and black whimsical flowers but she used her colors of yellow, white and red raspberry...(quite complicated). The bakery owner had done a fabulous job interpreting the cake and now it was my turn. Scary. Luckily I only had to do the top tier. I did my best and aside from my daughter making me change the background buttercream from her original yellow to white, it looks fairly close. It's certainly not a RonBen Isreal cake...but it reflects the whimsy of it. It's a 6 inch 4-layer square chocolate with 2 layers of chocolate buttercream filling and the center layer raspberry.

Teapot Birthday Cake
I used a stainless steel bowl to make the shape (two halves put together of course). I had just enough batter left to make the 'lid'.. Then I stenciled the flower pattern on with buttercream (over really cold buttercream on the cake) and painted the leaves with petal dust. I discovered that a very thin coat of royal icing makes a really shiny appearance on gumpaste so I put that on the handle and spout . I let them dry but they were still a little tacky --however when I painted them with a mix of lemon extract and avocado petal dust, wow! It went on smooth and super shiny and they didn't feel sticky anymore. So I did the same to the buttercream petals and polka dots. I used royal icing for the dots and the centers of the gumpaste flowers. The cake is a sour cream strawberry with strawberry buttercream filling and cream cheese frosting. My husband's sister loved it.

Ok State University Groom's Cake
This was a 2-tier chocolate/Kaluah cake with whipped chocolate ganache filling and chocolate dipped strawberries drizzled with OSU orange colored white chocolate. The cake is covered in chocolate buttercream and the OSU logo and orange strips at base of tiers are fondant. The strips have been stamped with a curlycue design that resembles stamped leather but it's not showing too well on this picture. I didn't make the topper! It's a figurine. :) This was a last minute request for a friend of mine whose son was the best man at a wedding where the groom had backed out of making his own cake. They were happy with the results.

Tiffany Blue Gift Box Cake With Bracelet
This is my very first attempt at decorating a cake. It was for my sister-in-law's birthday and I wanted to do something special. It is a 4 layer french vanilla cake with alternating layers of lemon curd and raspberry. I used buttercream frosting and tinted the last layer of it Tiffany blue so as not to have the frosting solid blue. I made the bow and bracelet out of gumpaste and dusted the bow with Pearl lustre dust and the bracelet with gold. The charms on the bracelet represent various parts of her life. I colored a strip of fondant the same tiffany blue and placed it around the top so as to look like a gift box.

Christmas Gift Cake
Instead of just a square box I wanted a fun whimsical gift-box look for some friends of ours, so I trimmed the 3-layers of cake ( I used an 8" on top, 7" and 6" squares ) in an inverted pyramid style and added polka dots and a large red gumpaste bow with twisty ribbon tails It is a French Vanilla cake with raspberry filling and it is frosted in buttercream and smoothed to resemble fondant. The red and green polka dots are fondant and the gumpaste tag was written with edible markers.

Shoe Cake With Polkadots
This was a small tiered cake I did for my daughter who loves shoes. I must admit I could have used some help with my shoe...she LOVES the stiletto heel so I had to make it very high. Anyway, it was the best I could do winging it as it were. She liked it though. The cake is a vanilla cake with chocolate fudge buttercream filling. It's frosted in white buttercream. The dots are colored fondant and I made little black bows around the base of the tiers.
