Mom's Many Talents
This cake was for my Mom's 70th Birthday/Mother's Day celebration. It's fondant covered with all hand modeled fondant/gumpaste elements. It honors her many talents and interests. There's one flower for each of her 6 kids, 13 grandkids, & 1 great-grandkid. The handprints are for the grandkids too with the great-grandkid's added to the frame. The painting is a replica of one of her paintings she did many years ago. My Mom is definitely the inspiration for my creative side!

King Will And His Knights
Another cake for another nephew. He wanted knights fighting in front of a castle. The 8" square castle is covered with BC rocks and fondant trim. The turrets are molded RKT. All figures are hand modeled from gumpaste. The catapult can actually launch the blazing cannonball. The party was moved up a full week - luckily I have a niece who was able to come help me finish on the day of the party. Thanks to Ddaigle for answering my questions about her cool all buttercream castle cake. TFL!

Wwii Battle Scene
This BC covered cake was for my nephew. He gave me a long list of things he wanted on his cake. He asked that his name be spelled out with flames in the center of the cake. The tank and medical truck are hand molded from RKT then covered with fondant. All othe decorations are fondant except the barbed wire which is gumpaste. TFL.

Paige's Rainbow Princess
This 8" vanilla cake with BC icing was for my niece's birthday. She asked for very specific things that I tried to incorporate into one design. The jewelry box is RKT covered with fondant. All other decor is fondant. I can't tell you how many times she emphasized the cake needed to be pink.

Shuttle Commander Benjamin
I made this for my son's 5th birthday party that was held at an Air & Space Museum last Fall. It's been my favorite cake to do because I love outer space and because it was for my little guy. He loved watching me create everything for him and even helped design the aliens. The shuttle was carved out of vanilla cake then covered with MMF. The tail fin was fondant covered cardboard but all other shuttle details were edible fondant. The moon was carved from a 10" round chocolate cake & covered in BC. The alien spaceship was RKT covered with fondant. The aliens and astronaut were hand modeled from fondant. I got the idea for the aliens' sign from a cake on this site. My son loved that he was the astronaut floating in space. The astronaut's face shield is gelatin. I used various colors of luster dust, petal dust, & disco dust for the stars and galaxies decorating the 20"x30" MMF covered plywood board. This was my first time to carve cake and cover with fondant. TFL!

Handprint Turkey
I had my 5 yr old son make a handprint turkey so I could use it as a template for this FBCT. I had already baked the 6" chocolate cake when we made the turkey. I didn't realize his hands had gotten so big! I was lucky that it just fit the top of the cake. He loved having a hand in the design. TFL!

Twilight Eclipse
I made this ice cream "cake" for my 9 yr old niece's birthday who is a huge Twilight fan. She was so excited she took a bite out of the fondant covered RKT apple right in front of me to show me how much she liked it. The rest of the decor is fondant. This is the first time I've made a flower like this. I definitely want/need to take a class. TFL.

Barbie Makeup Bag
I made this vanilla cake for my niece's 6th birthday. She was so excited when she saw it and wouldn't let her sister eat any of the fondant makeup pieces. The cake and RKT face cream jar are covered with Buttercream and all the makeup/decorations are fondant. This was my first and possibly last bag/purse cake - it was a near disaster but thankfully held together. TFL.

Space Walk Through Ossas 2010
I can't believe I won 1st place in the Special Techniques not on Cake category. I was so excited. Everything is fondant except for the control board inside the capsule which is gumpaste and the windows and face shield which are gelatin. This was my first time to enter any cake or sugar art competition.

Baby Boy's Toys
This was for my cousin's baby shower. I knew she liked polka dots and monograms and that the nursery colors were navy & apple green. From there I just had fun. BC icing with all fondant accents. This was my first two tier cake and my first attempt at modeling a baby or teddy bear. TFL!

Firefighter Thanks
Our newly formed cake club decided to make special treats for local fire fighters as a thank you for all they do. I delivered this chocolate cake to my neighborhood station. BC icing & piped ladders with fondant accents and piping gel "water". The droplets of "water" didn't quite come out as planned. I took cues from danasflowers fire hydrant in modeling my own. TFL!

Vegetable Garden
I surprised my MIL with this vegetable garden for her birthday. I only made veggies that she grows in her backyard but couldn't fit all the veggies she grows into one cake. All decorations are made out of fondant with gumpaste mixed in for the corn stalks, pail, rake, & wheelbarrow wheel and handles. Somehow, I managed to make the wheelbarrow so it truly rolls. The "dirt" is the chocolate cake left from leveling. She has handprints of her three sons making up a cement/brick landing off her back door so I put handprints in the stepping stones to honor that. The only nonedible bits are the toothpicks used for the tomato cages and for the legs of the wheelbarrow. It was a LOT of work but her reaction was worth it. TFL & thanks to all CCers who've done similar cakes - they were great inspirations.

Five Birthdays In Chocolate
March is a busy birthday month with 5 family members celebrating. I made this chocolate cake with one element made from fondant for each birthday person. The bow, ribbon, and balls are made of modeling chocolate. First time to make a bow and chocolate icing. Still need practice on both.

John Deere Baby Shower
I made this cake for a cousin's John Deere themed baby shower. I still wanted it to be babyish, so I chose to make a Johnny Tractor character. The cake is French Vanilla with BC icing and clouds. All other decor is fondant. The baby's name is on the blanket and spelled out on two of the blocks. The third block displays a pig, cow, chick, corn, & wheat. The size of the blocks made them quite a challenge. I used my son's JD toy tractor to make the imprint on the board. TFL!

Captain Rex
I was happy to be able to surprise my niece with this Captain Rex cake, her favorite character from the Clone Wars series. It's a chocolate cake iced with BC. The helmet is RKT covered in fondant and handpainted while the antenna is gumpaste. All other decorations are fondant. I found candles that flame the same color as the wax so I decided to turn them into light sabers. This cake was a blast to make. TFL!

Christmas Ornament Ice Cream Cake
Ice Cream Cake made with brownie base and layers of vanilla & chocolate ice cream separated by cookie crumbs & fudge. "Icing" is mixture of cool whip & ice cream. Pine branch was piped with fudge. Ornament is fondant painted with food color marker and sprinkled with luster dust. Border is just cool whip. Thanks to KHalstead for the inspiration and thanks for looking.

Snowman Ice Cream Cake
This is my first Ice Cream Cake. I worked quickly so it wouldn't melt on me, but too quickly as you can tell. The design is from Psmith I think. The cake has a brownie base with layers of vanilla ice cream, cookie crumbs with fudge, and chocolate ice cream. The icing is a mixture of ice cream and cool whip and the snowman is fondant with fudge arms. TFL.

Joy Ornament Christmas Cake
I saw this Joy ornament in a catalog and thought it would be fun to recreate on a cake. It's a spice cake with Indydebi's BC recipe. The letters, creche, and stars are made out of a fondant and gumpaste mix and then handpainted. I used the Melvira method and the fondant / gumpaste mix for the first time. The cake is a little uneven and the stars were applied in a hurry with my DH and my 4yr old peppering me with questions so the spacing is a bit erratic. Still, I was pleased with the final cake. I can't wait to try more "firsts" of things I've learned on CC.

Rush Album Covers
This cake was inspired by multiple Rush album covers. I was able to surprise my husband who has been a fan of theirs for as long as he can remember. The cake has three layers (so it would be tall enough for the dragon) covered with buttercream. The sides of the cake represent four albums with two additional represented on top with the Inukshuk Man (rock figure from "Test for Echo") and the font from the first album, "Rush", mimicked in the name and one more on the cake board with the dice (from "Roll the Bones"). Except for the buttercream flames where I placed the birthday candles, the decorations are fondant and modeling chocolate. This is my first attempt to model anything 3D and I learned a lot the hard way. The dragon is RKT covered with modeling chocolate and fondant fruit and coconut drink (from "Rush Live in Rio" cover). The teeth were candy melts. The coconut drink is complete with white piping gel drink, toothpick & tissue paper umbrella & candy melt straw. The body isn't as detailed as I had hoped but time and inexperience prevailed. The other three albums I referenced were "2112" with the modeling chocolate Starman figure, "Snakes & Arrows" with, yes, snakes and arrows, and "Counterparts" with a nut and bolt. While I stayed up all night to finish, it didn't feel like it because I had so much fun creating this. Thanks for looking and for all the tips I got from other postings.

Lightning Mcqueen
This cake was for my son's 4th birthday. I knew the shaped Wilton pan wouldn't be enough cake so I created this design to add a small rectangle "billboard" cake and a cactus 4 made out of mini cupcakes tinted green. The 20"x30" board is covered with a fondant desert scene inspired by the party napkins as well as the numerous McQueen items in our house. Thanks for looking.
