1970's Style Tiered Wedding Cake With Pillars And Bows- Buttercream
This wedding cake was made for a 45th wedding anniversary. It was originally meant to be a replica of the original 1970 wedding cake, but as the party was a surprise, and the photos available were poor quality, I was able to enjoy a lot of latitude, with the main requirements being the topper and swans. This was my first cake with multiple pillars, and my first traditional wedding cake, and my first all buttercream cake, as I usually work with fondant. Also the first cake I've made in about 3-4 years, since I stopped baking for awhile.

3D Tank Cake For 5 Year Old Army Themed Birthday Party
My five year old wanted an army themed birthday cake. I got the idea from several pics gleaned from the internet, including a tank cake tutorial here on Cake Central. Very sorry I can't remember who it was specifically! This cake was unfinished - it was supposed to be sitting on a cake plate with scenery, but my youngest son broke his leg at daddy's house and i had to take him to the ER before I could finish! Missed the party too :( so the only pics I could get of the cake were a couple a friend of mine took. Shame too, because the awesome thing about the cake was all of the tiny details... you can't see any of them in the photos.

Candy Castle Cake Covered With White Modeling Chocolate (Chocolate Clay)
My son really wanted a candy castle cake for his birthday... He could hardly believe that he could have candy on top of cake *lol* it was a dream come true for him! The cake is a two layer chocolate cake with raspberry swiss merengue frosting and filled with raspberry buttercream frosting. the outside is covered in sheets of modeling chocolate imprinted with a stone design and then dusted with cocoa to get a more "realistic" appearance. My son chose all his own candies, and helped put them on (which explains the large pile of mini m&m's on the roof of the castle). The modeling chocolate was in solid sheets that I cut to size and melted the edges together so that it would have more of an angular appearance. Not sure it really made a lot of difference in the end... I was going for something small and easy (ha ha ha ha) and now I want to try one a little bit bigger and more realistic (and without the candy) cause I have so many ideas now :P

3D Elmo Cake With Internal Structure Of Pvc Pipe
This is my 3rd elmo cake attempt. I am getting better, I think, though I would like to give it one more go! This was for my son's 2nd birthday and it was almost as tall as he is. The stomach is cake - chocolate with dark chocolate and cherry filling, and vanilla almond cake with raspberry and marzipan filling all covered in red vanilla almond butter cream frosting. The head, arms and legs are rice crispy treats (rkt) covered in the buttercream. The only thing that I am still needing to get is how to make Elmo smile. He always looks scared - though if I were made out of cake, I might look that way too! *lol* At any rate, it was lots of fun and my son told me next time he wants elmo and cookie monster!

My First Baby Rump Cake
This cake was for a friend's baby shower. The cake was chocolate with rasberry filling and cream cheese frosting. The legs are cake and fondant covered, while the feet are all fondant. I had a lot of fun putting all the little lines on the feet, knees and toes! The blanket is white with light green border and tiny roses all over it. It is hard to see in the picture, but there is a quilted pattern on it too. the colors are light pink, dark pink and green. I got the idea from many here on cake central and in google images. The shoe template was also here on cake central. This was lots of fun and is now one of my favorite cakes to make. The tiny roses for this cake were a lot of work, but totally worth it in the end. The blanket was too thin, and tore as I covered the baby, but I pieced it back together and stuck a bbq pick in it until it was dry, then I covered the hole with another tiny rose and no one noticed at all. I just about died when I first tore it though! The cupcake are mini sized and they were chocolate with rasberry filling and cream cheese frosting. The polka dots on the cake and cupcakes are from fondant.

Baby Rump Cake With Zebra Striped Blanket, Buttons And Bows
I got this idea from many here on Cake central and google images. This is actually my second one, I am still trying to find the pictures of the first one. This was for a baby shower and the theme was princess and zebra print. I bought a tiara and scepter that were set next to the baby and the diaper print is made with the wilton molds with the sort of victorian theme. There is a really tiny crown on the diaper above the bow. I really love making this cake, and everyone is always thrilled with it, though no one ever wants to cut into the baby! This cake was chocolate with butter almond cream cheese frosting for the filling and topping, with fondant over it. It has been so hot and humid here, that no matter how much frosting I put over it, the chocolate cake still faintly showed through the fondant. It wasn't a big deal to anyone but me, but it was still irritating. I tried refrigeration and everything, but the cream cheese frosting just kept melting off! Grrrr...

Spy Cake / Lie Detector Machine Cake
I invented this cake after looking at dozens of pictures of lie detector tests online. It isn't an exact replica of any of them, but I tried to put lots of details in it to make it realistic. The entire cake is edible, most of it is fondant, with the "paper" made of the wilton paper sheets. I hand painted the lines on it, as well as the printout. The cake is in various shades of gray and white. The actual cake was vanilla, with cherry filling and almond cream cheese frosting. The little sensors could actually move and I made little fondant screws to put them together by pressing a screwdriver into the ends of the fondant pins. i made the copper wire with a clay extruder.

Lightning Mcqueen Birthday Cake
A friend of mine wanted a CARS cake for her two year old son. This was the result. I just looked at a couple of toy Lightning McQueens that my sons play with all the time. The cake was chocolate pound cake with vanilla rum buttercream filling and vanilla Italian buttercream frosting, covered in marshmallow fondant. I served chocolate whipped cream on the side for those who wanted it with the cake. I realized at 3:00 am that I had forgotten to set aside buttercream to make yellow writing for the cake, so I made it all in red. oops. :( I put the number 2 on the car instead of 95 since the little boy is two. I also wrote his name on the spoiler after I got to the party.

Pirate Ship Cake
This is actually the cake that got me into making cakes... My son wanted the HEB pirate ship for his birthday, but I couldn't afford it so I decided to make my own. This was a year ago, before I knew anything about making cakes. This was made with a box cake and store bought frosting. (The horror! LOL) It was another 6 months before I really got into cakes, but this was so much fun that it put the idea in my head.

Rainbow Cake
first ever buttercream frosting attempt. I haven't ever made it because I don't really care for buttercream, but since january I have been getting really into cake making and I know this is a big part of being able to make cakes. i hear it is an art form to make good buttercream and I know it is true because a month and about 6 cakes later I still haven't managed to make a batch that I am satisfied with. It is always to soft, too stiff, too grainy, too greasy, etc. etc. But I'm still working on it. :)

Sweet Sixteen
Tiered sweet sixteen cake for my sister's birthday. Fondant covered, with pillow cake as top tier and a tiara on the pillow. (She is really into princess stuff). Pink roses and purple drop flowers made of buttercream frosting. The cake was vanilla with strawberry filling and cream cheese frosting and the pillow was strawberry with strawberry filling and strawberry frosting. The tiara was supposed to be made of royal icing but it broke immediately before the party so I stopped at walmart and bought one instead.

Tiara - Sweet Sixteen
This is my third attempt at a tiara for my sister's sweet sixteen cake. The other two were too delicate and broke while I was trying to remove them from the wax paper. I used royal frosting and silver dragees. This actually smashed before I had a chance to get it on the cake - I tripped over one of my son's toys while I was carrying it out to the car and even though I had it in a container it smashed when I hit the ground. :( I just went to walmart and bought a tiara to put on the cake and my sister was perfectly happy. :)

Superhero Birthday Cake
My son wanted a batman/superman/spiderman birthday cake. I got this idea from a picture online, I can't remember where I found it but I really liked the idea of the city and the sky. This is the first time that I have tried sugar cookies and they were harder than I thought - and I didn't even think about needing to ice the back sides of the cookies because they would be visible (LOL)! But - live and learn. I have only been doing this for about 4 months so I am still on the steep part of the learning curve...

Yellow Cake With Flowers
yellow buttercream frosting with pink, purple, and blue flowers. This is from a Wilton Course I cake class. I have never worked with buttercream before and find it more difficult than fondant to work with - probably just because I am not a big fan of Crisco :) But I'm learning !

My First Wedding Cake
My mom wanted a wedding cake for her birthday since she and her husband never had one... She designed it - a heart shape on top of a round. She wanted the pink and white theme - although I wished she would have made the beads all one color since I thought it looked a little funny with pearl and pink on the same cake. She also wanted a wine glass in the middle so she and her hubby could do the toast out of the cake. She likes to be different. :)This photo is when the cake is unfinished - it had purple iris around the glass and down one side - but I lost those photos :( you can see, though, that the fondant has sagged on the bottom cake. A problem that I constantly have. Is this because I have not dowelled the cake properly and it is too heavy? Also, my first attempt at a drape - it was a little stiff; I think I rolled it too thick, but it looked nice at the end with the flowers on it.
