Best In Division And Brides Magazine Winner
This is my third attempt to get this right! Hopefully I've followed every rule this time...LOL. This was my first entry into my first cake competition. I won 1st place and Best in Division - Adult Advanced. My cake was chosen by Brides Editor, Maria McBride for the 75th Anniversary Edition of Brides Magazine Mar 09 Issue. Maria was the one to coin the name "That 70's Cake" when I told her I based it on retro fabric I had recently purchased. It was featured on the same page with my idol Rebecca Sutterby. How cool is that!

Handgun And Ammo Grooms Cake
This gun was hand sculpted in brownies based on a picture of gun collecting grooms favorite handgun. Gun is covered in fondant and painted with silver dust. Bullets hand sculpted from fondant and painted with shimmer copper dust. Many of the guest were in law enforcement and loved the cake.

Cooler Cake
This cooler cake is covered in buttercream with fondant accents. It is filled with the grooms favorite drinks. I was displayed on a table with his favorite snacks, bean dip and tortilla chips! The kids kept trying to take the canned drinks all night and the elderly guests kept asking "why is everyone "taking pictures of that ice chest?" The ultimate compliment!

You'll Be In My Heart
I made this six tier stacked cake for a cake show in Austin. It combined rectangles and ovals and was over 24" tall. The theme was music and I based the cake on Phil Collins' song, "You'll Be In My Heart." Every tier was decorated with different hearts, most of which I made my own molds for.

Priest-Kemper Wedding
This square stacked cake was covered in mint green fondant, circled in brown bands, and finished with tiny pale pink polka dots. The tiers were carrot cake/cream cheese, german chocolate/coconut pecan, and vanilla/raspberry with filling. I fashioned my own cutters to make the Lily of the Incas gum paste flowers to match the brides bouquet. The "K" is half gumpaste and half fondant and painted with iridescent dust that shimmered and echoed the green and brown tones of the cake.

Independence Day Remembered
The second of two cakes I entered in my first cake competition. It took 2nd Place in the Adult Advanced Holiday Cakes Division. I chose deep colors and a "tea stained" look finish for a vintage feel. I included the yellow ribbon in support of our brave troops. I actually liked this one better than my 1st place winner because I love old Americana. I am not above painting and "distressing" almost anything!
