Cake Shop/shelf
One of my entries in the Sydney Royal Easter Show 2009. Won 3rd in Novice Celebration Cake Category. The cake on the bottom, on the right is a miniature of my wedding cake entry. A lot more entries this year and the standard was high, so I was pretty excited to receive any kind of recognition!

Rainbow Trout
A Rainbow Trout cake for a birthday. In addition to a googled picture of a rainbow trout I turned to two designs I found on Flickr: and the ever amazing Debbie Does Cakes Now I know mine doesn't hold a candle to either of them, but I did whip out the airbrush and every little bit of practice help, mainly I think I got the carving a bit wrong, and I was a bit heavy handed with the dots. But the client thought it was great so that's all that matters right! :D

Elena's Kitchen Tea
Design sent by client based on a Celebrations Cake picture she sent me. The Board says Elena's Kitchen Tea and has some flower design added, next time I would use a stronger colour, comes out even worse in the picture. It is ledgible in real life! ;D The utensils are hand made with modelling paste with skewers inside to allow ease of sticking in cake and pulling out for serving.

Lana & Dean's Wedding Cake
This is a 14/12/10 inch marble mud cake based on a Sweet Art Design, personalised to the couple. There were also 2 kitchen cakes chocolate mud 12 and 10 inches. I had some timing issues with the cake and then on Tuesday realised that the delivery was for Friday not Saturday....! Eeeccckkkkk! Special thanks to my friends who kept me sane, and telling me I could do it. But an extra special thanks to my friend Sharon for being able to meet me there, help me carry the cakes in and set up and take some additional pictures. As the marquee was right up against the back of the opera house, it wasn't possible to get a pic of the cake with the opera house in the background, but we did take some shots showing the harbour, the bridge and one from the outside showing the top of the opera house before we set up. Sharon was an absolute lifesaver on the day and I am forever indebted to her and Master Zen! There are some really specific touches to the couple including their cat, dog and bird.

Dual Fish Tank
A little while ago I uploaded a Dual Library Book cake for a double birthday where one side was for one birthday girl and when you turned the cake around it was for the other birthday girl. Well two more colleagues asked me to make a combined birthday and following a similar process with a fish tank we came up with the following! One side for Sharon and one for Jenny.

Queen Mum
Based on the Debbie Brown Cake, this is my twist based on the birthday girl and her likes. A family birthday, I procrastinated a bit because of the hot weather and then ended up having to put it together Thursday night which ended up being like the hottest day of the year, finishing touches done Friday night. For once I'm grateful to the grainy photo to hide most of the flaws! hahaha some strategically place items to hide some unfortunate fingernail marks! :D

Guitar Cake
My first attempt at a guitar cake for a friend's boyfriend. She sent me a picture of a real guitar and then I found several guitar cakes on flickr and used them as inspiration as well. Neck is a piece of foam to keep it light, and strings are grey string. As always first cakes are learning experiences! But I am quite pleased with the woodgrain effect.

Suitcase, Makeup Bag And Chocolate Thongs
Leaving Cake for a friend who is going to live on the other side of Australia but is going travelling first. Chocolate shoes/thongs/flipflops added as she loves chocolate too. Modelled on a bag I saw on flickr! What did I learn? Don't touch the cake after playing with chocolate fondant will leave marks. Don't do the zipper free hand it will come out crooked! :D

Buttercup Ball
This was a labour of love! Seen by the client (who thankfully is a friend) in a book by Elaine MacGregor I quickly discovered the instructions in the book called for Silk flowers. I had to spend some time figuring out how to do a buttercup. I went with a simple version based on the look of the silk flowers not real buttercup, thank god I did there are over 100 flowers not including the breakages & single petals I used to fill in gaps. For a first attempt at this style I'm pretty pleased and learnt loads!

50 & 60Th Library Books Dual Cake
I was asked to make a cake for one of the ladies I work with for her 60th birthday she wasn't very forthcoming in ideas and then decided to combine it with another colleague who was turning 50. As they are both librarians I decided to go with the books. Then I had this fab idea to turn it into a trick cake turn it one way and it's the cake for the 50th, turn it around and it's the cake for the 60th! So yes this is one cake just pictures from different angles!

Mini Chocolate Bouquet
I'm becoming quite renowned for these chocolate bouquets. A quickie thrown together (lucky I had cake and chocolate's already lying around!) for a birthday I found out about yesterday. I think it's a great way to incorporate chocolates into the design of the cake. The choc bouquet is completely edible half choc ball with choc roses and fondant blossoms.

Hot Pink Shoes
One of the girls at work is leaving to start her own business. I made this last minute with left over stuff. I thought the shoes would be cute but should have mixed the colour for the shoes better, or lighter at least oh well for an evening's work with left overs that's whatcha get! However, these ended up being such a hit, I've already taken an order for another pair!

Mixed Party Cake
This is an order for the girl at work who is leaving, she's a real sweetie and is having a party to celebrate her birthday belatedly and to celebrate her new venture. So half the cake is party time and half is work time. The cake itself is half chocolate half white chocolate. She likes dogs which is why the party guests are dogs, she recently bought herself a pink laptop and loves pink and purple. This was loads of fun!

Hot Pink Star
I've done this one before, colour changes by client, I like the Hot Pink and Black, but the client also wanted silver and gold, personally I think she should have stuck with just the silver but it's not for me so.....! 18inch board so it's a biggy! This one goes with the Hot Pink Candyland Cake as well.

Beachywedding01.jpg
A work colleague's daughter got married and the cake lady (a friend) did a no-show, no friend, no cake. I was quite gobsmacked and desperate to have a swing at a style inspired by the latest cover of Wedding Cakes A Design Source. So with two spare fruit cakes and a bit of patience I spent the last two days working on this to take in as a surprise because every bride should have a cake!

Halle's First Birthday
Made for my goddaughter based on two fabulous cakes from Flickr. I combined the two ideas and had a vision of the elephant blowing the flowers out of his trunk and having them tumble down the cake getting busier down the bottom. My little baby is nowhere near as cute as the main one I borrowed it from in fact I see many things I need to work on, but I know my friend will love it for her daughter, and once again a beautiful $2 shop paper, I am starting to build quite a collection!

Bon Jovi In Chocolate For Jessie
My niece wanted Bon Jovi for her birthday. I tried giving a choc portrait a go, but couldn't make the shading work as the chocolate kept going hard before I could paint with it, I think my kitchen is too cold. So I decided to combine some effects, made a fondant plaque, used dry & wet cocoa for shading & then piped the chocolate outline. I hope I captured enough of the spirit of him.... got the centering all wrong she's only 12 hopefully she won't notice... I'm no portrait artist that's for sure.
