Elephant Pillows
Loved making this cake! Borrowed the coolest, most-realistic looking elephant toy I've ever seen from my son's pre-school as a model. Took me several attempts to figure out what I was doing with it, until I realized I needed to use a single piece of fondant, not separate for limbs and trunk, to make the elephant solid. Square pillow followed the tutorial on CC - thanks! Pound cake with SMBC, all vanilla, and Choco-Pan. I only wish hubby was more descriptive than "everyone loved it" when telling me how it was received at the office celebration of a co-worker's recent wedding.

Marzipan Gotham City
12-10-8" covered in marzipan, w/ fondant city cutouts. Decorated in less than an hour, that's all the time I ended up with before my son's 4-and-half B-day party was about to start... He didn't get it, he said "I thought you were making me a Batman cake?!?!?!?!" until I put the Batman candle, it made it acceptable... It was fun to watch kids munching on marzipan - I usually strip the fondant off before serving a cake, marzipan was soooo much tastier!!! Cake was chocolate and vanilla w/ SMBC.

Red Car
Made for my son's third B-day - cars were his thing at the time (now he's into dinosaurs, if the trend persists, it would make an interesting cake!). All chocolate cake with SMBC. Tires started off as cupcakes, he loved them! Front license place spelled the date and back was his name. Little picture peeking out of the driver's window.

3-Tier Sunshine Wedding
For my girlfriend's wedding today - theme was Sunshine with an outdoor ceremony, and her flowers were dominated by white and yellow roses. All tiers over 4.5" tall. 12" tier is 6 layers of flourless walnut cake w/ chocolate ala-pudding BC filling, 9" is tropical carrot cake with crystalized ginger, macademia nuts, pineapple & coconut flakes w/ coconut cream cheese filling, 6" is flourless chocolate cake w/ SMBC; whole cake is iced in SMBC under the Choco-Pan. Hand-made roses & pearls dusted w/ super pearl.

Vegas Wedding Topsy-Turvy - White, Pink & Brown
My very first wedding cake, made for one of my very best friends. It survived the 1-1/2 hour flight to Vegas, *almost* intact, yeah! She liked a cake by SweetHope that I used for inspiration. 10" Garash in 12 tortes at tallest and 6 at shortest point, 8" white w/ vanilla SMBC in 4 tortes, 6" flourless walnut in 8 tortes w/chocolate rum SMBC, all covered in Choco-Pan, with 50/50 fondant/gumpaste pearls, swirls, ribbon roses and hearts topper. This TT cake is not carved level and has NO supports!

Marble For Marble's Sake, With A Bow Attempt
I just LOVE marbling! Saw a post a couple of days ago on the best way to cover in fondant a tall skinny cake (as in a Dr. Seuss hat) so I just had to try it for the heck of it -- plus test my new 4.5" spring forms. Fondant was rolled in a rectangle large enough to go around the cake; then the well chilled, almost 6" tall ganache-filled and covered cake was laid on its side and wrapped like a burrito. Works like a charm!!! Can't say the same about my very first completely disastrous loopy bow...

Sf Giants Baseball Cake & Cupcake
The type of cake I never thought Iâd make⦠But then I volunteered for the smash cake for a friendâs sonâs b-day before knowing the theme, so lo and behold, a sports cake! Wasnât sure how âsmashableâ fondant would be, so I made an extra cupcake in BC only but smashed by the little guy that big ball was! Used Wiltonâs ball pan, organic chocolate cake with chocolate butter crème in 8 tortes. Giants logo was free-handed on fondant. My Halloween serving plates ended up the perfect match!

Penguins In May?! In California?! :-)
Yup! Made for my very close friend whoâs mad about penguins, and her twin brother several thousand miles away. I intended to make 30 penguins, but realized cake was too small to support so many. Inspired by several penguin CC pics. 10-9-8â flourless walnut cakes, about 1.5â thick; first about 1/3 of each layer cut to make another layer, then each layer torted under an angle for the slope effect. Chocolate pastry crème+butter filling, SMBC snow. Can you tell I was out of white fondant?! :-)

Going Away - Suitcase & Purse
For a going away party⦠Purse is 8â chocolate cake, cut in half, then each torted in 3, with dark chocolate mousse w/ morello cherries, with their syrup soaking the cake layers. Suitcase is 9x13â Garash torte, 6 batches of the recipe for this size - only ahmâ¦36 eggs and 2lb of butter among other things⦠Leather effects are done with a stonewall roller and marbling. I had a blast with the details on this oneâ¦

Flowers!
I was in a flowers mood, so decided to play around with some flowers for a 3-year oldâs birthday, those were colors I had left over and needed to use them up â she just happens to have a similar skirt! Carved the top alike the ballerina skirt cakes just to add some dimension, not that visible from this angle⦠3â thick, 7" round vanilla cake in 3 tortes, with cream cheese filling and fresh banana slices, covered in fondant, with flowers 50/50 gumpaste/fondant.

Pirate Cake
One of the easiest cakes ever! I needed a small, very quick pirate cake for a 7-year oldâs birthday, searched the galleries and fell in love with the design by srmaxwell â so this is virtually the same cake. Chocolate cake, with chocolate pastry crème filling and chocolate buttercream frosting, all covered in fondant. Thanks a bunch for the inspiration, srmaxwell!!!

Topsy-Turvy Baby Shower Cake
For the baby shower of a good friend, made to match the crib set she chose and the party decorations at the same time. Size are 10-9-8, 8-7-6, 6-5-4 inches. Bottom is chocolate with Kahlua hazelnut ganache, w/ Kahlua simple syrup, middle is vanilla with pastry crème, top is alternating chocolate and vanilla with pastry crème and buttercreme. Covered in SatinIce. Posted a thread âTopsy-turvy pastry crème abbys!â with an alternate picture on the disastrous middle tier⦠Lessons learned!

Vertical Tiramisu
Ever since I saw a âverticalâ cake (a thin sheet cut in 3â strips, then layered standing up with ganache around the inside of a cheese cake pan) I have been thinking of turning my tiramisu vertical. It was a little challenging to do the first outer layer, as the biscotti kept falling in, a smudge of mascarpone fixed that. I like the result very much! I do need to use an 8â instead of 10â pan, as it took 6 packs of biscotti instead of 4, it was HUGE and I didnât have enough filling⦠Vertical tiramisu it is!

The Barbapapa Family
For my younger sonâs second b-day. I grew up with the books, and recently came upon a very pirated, terribly dubbed DVD set with some 35 episodes. Now our little guy loves the colorful blobs! Vanilla cake w/ pastry crème and fresh strawberries submerged in it, a 1/2" dam of cake, and SMBC frosting, piled up for the 3-1/2" height. As precarious as it may seem on a 3-tier 12-10-8â, it was very stable, just extremely heavy. B-day boy was sooo excited, later the kids played with the still-soft fondant blobs...

Camera Cake
A picture-taking freak myself (read 1,200 pics from a week in Rome) Iâve been dying to make a camera cake! Made for a friend's b-day today, who's just as camera-crazy. 11x15 sheet, cut in 4 stripes, 3 stacked for the body, last cut into rounds for lenses and a standing battery compartment. Marble cake, filled w/ vanilla pastry creme, frosted w/ mocha SMBC and covered in SatinIce. I could have been more elaborate in the look-alikeness to the actual model, but I only had a couple of hours to play with it...

30+1 Plumeria Blossoms
For the 30-th birthday of a good friend. Inspired by a cake by rittenhouse. My first attempt at gum paste and painting on edibles, took about 4 hours and several "drafts".. Petals are scored with a wood grain roller for texture. The flowers turned out fine, but they donât look like plumeria, color ended up too intense and the mini-muffin pan where they dried closed them up too much... 10" chocolate cake in 4 tortes, with 2 baskets of fresh strawberries and whipped chocolate ganache filling and SMBC frosting

Heavy Textbooks
Made for the graduation of a good friend. The top book is Chambord WASC (yuk⦠it had the texture of marshmallows⦠) with white chocolate raspberry ganache (so-so). Bottom is two Garash tortes on top of each other â thus the bulge in the middle, cake board was too big), each torte is made of respectively 6 and 7 super thin layers of flourless cake, with heavy chocolate butter-only buttercream - it was devoured in seconds!!! Cap is sponge with white chocolate pastry cream and solid white chocolate slab top.

5-Tier Chocolate Barbie And Vanilla Smash Cake
My interpretation of a Barbie⦠Chocolate with home-made raspberry syrup and dark chocolate ganache for all tiers but the bottom - roasted hazelnut ganache with Kahlua. All are 2â, torted in 3 layers, for a finished height of 3â; 12-10-8-6-4-inch rounds for a party of 35-40 people - only the secret spiked bottom tier remained 5 minutes after slicing the cake â everything else was devoured!!! Used 4lb of dark chocolate⦠The smash cake is scratch organic vanilla sponge with Mascarpone filling and frosting.

Two Marble Mugs Of Steaming Coffee
Made for my mom and a friend of hers, who has the same name. We were invited over to celebrate their name day together, so I figured two cakes were in order. One is Garash Torte, the other is our staple flourless walnut with a combination of pastry cream and SMBC. I had left over fondant in those colors so my goal was to just use it up....

Winter?! What Winter?
My very own, very first topsy-turvy cake for my momâs birthday today. She said she wanted nothing wintery, instead something cheerful and bright⦠Cake is my (her!) staple flourless walnut in 12 tortes for top and 4 for bottom, with rum simple syrup; filling is similar to chocolate SMBC, but with egg yolks instead of whites â is there a name for it?... The perfect cake to decorate â butter holds it solid and it can be carved and handled easily, yet it is super moist when served⦠Bad lighting, it was 3am...

Chocolate!!!
9-inch, 5-layer chocolate chip cookie cake with chocolate mousse filling and chocolate wrap. Way too many people want me to make this over and over again now⦠I used a soft and chewy recipe for the cookies and the mousse nicely moistens the layers so the cake slices like a regular cake, it has the texture of a cake, cut wedge does not break apart like a cookie, it is super smooth (well, with chocolate chips smooth). It also tastes surprisingly light for the amount of butter and chocolate in it...

Ladybug
I begged my friend to let me bake the cake for her daughter's 3-rd B-day, so Iâd have an excuse to practice. Invitations had ladybugs on, so I copied the theme. I had just read that black and red were the hardest colors to get right, so decided to stick with pink and brown (I did black and red on a cake later, and had no issues whatsoever). Cake is vanilla, torted into six layers for the body, with pastry cream and fresh raspberries between all layers. Kids loved it, of course, jellybeans and all :-)

Marble
The many things that went wrong⦠Cake was made in 2 nights â Iâd have given myself 4 for a first-time tiered cake.... It was *supposed* to be a topsy-turvy â hm⦠pastry cream not a good filling choice?... I resolved to boring flat, leveled and mortared but it still flooded out at a few spots⦠Conveniently, I have a bunch of tween girls to blame for the seams showing, they insisted on âhelpingâ me assemble it at the park â when all hands were off the cake, there wasnât a single straight wall in sight⦠:-)

Dragon W/ Kiwi Scales
I made this for my son's 3-1/2 birthday party (he's born on Christmas Eve, so we do kids parties for him in the summer instead). I did not want to feed green food dye to a bunch of 2- to 6-year olds, so I resolved to 24 kiwi fruits, sliced to turn into dragon scales. Cake is torted and filled with a variation of pastry cream. After I served the cake, I realized I forgot to put on the wings... oh well.
