Our Wedding Cake

I decided I was crazy enough to make my own wedding cake! I knew EXACTLY what I wanted as so finally decided to just do it myself. My maid-of-honor is a wedding florist and I got this idea from a floral magazine with an article on floral-inspired cakes (the one in the magazine was covered with tiny sugar daffodils). I loved the finished product, I just wish I had made the tiers taller, maybe more like 6" instead of the standard 4" since the flowers were so gigantic (about 2" each even though they are "mini" gerber daisies). Only the top is actual cake, for the cake-cutting, and the bottom two tiers are dummies. I bought sheet cakes from a bakery to cut and serve since I know neither of our families are fondant fans.

Happy Birthday

Chocolate cake with chocolate buttercream and covered in chocolate fondant. The base is surrounded with 'mudslide' cake truffles. The bow is made out of fondant and painted with luster dust. This was my first try at making a fondant bow.

I made this cake for my friends' little girl's 2nd birthday. Fondant w/ buttercream scrolls. I made the tiara with a 50/50 fondant/gumpaste blend. I drove from Seattle to Vancouver, BC with the completed cake and it made it all intact!

Fall Cupcakes

I made these for Halloween, but they actually look much more Thanksgiving-ish. They are pumpkin cupcakes filled with maple cream cheese filling and topped with maple buttercream. I made the little chocolate leaves on top too.

Gram's 75Th Birthday

My first tiered cake, and my first shot at working with fresh flowers. I got a good lesson in assembling a cake on-site. I had to have my dad cut the dowels with the only knife we were able to find there.

Cruise Ship Cookies

My first shot at decorated sugar cookies, for a friend who works on a cruise ship. I packed them up and overnighted them to San Diego and they arrived there while the ship was in port and all intact! Now that took some planning... and a lot of bubble wrap!
