Batman Birthday Cake
My favorite boy, Graham, turned 4 in 2010 and this year he wanted a Batman cake. I took a photo of him with his Batman mask on and superimposed it onto a great photo of the "real" Batman in Photoshop. I lamenated the photo as well as other photos of Gothom City and Batman logos. The lamenating process seals the photos, preventing oils from the cake from getting on the photos. They can then be taped or hot glued to picks for placing on the cake. This allows me to give a lot of detail to the cake without taking the large amount of time it would if the details were created with icing. Also, after the cake is served, I take some of the best lamenated photos and hot glue a magnet on the backs which kids always love to have. On this cake I also used some great Batmobiles and other cars from the Batman series to decorate with. The cars were my gift to the birthday boy. I used Silly Putty to attach them to a lamenated sheet of colored paper that had a toothpick hot glued to it and stuck the cars around the cake as they circled Gothom City. The Batplane had the perfect hole made into the bottom of it for inserting a wooden skewer which I mounted and placed on the table behind the cake. The cake was chocolate with buttercream icing and although it was fresh and tasty, Graham as Batman along with the other Batman references were the best parts of this cake for the birthday boy!

Bridal Shower Cake
This white cake with pink buttercream icing was easy to make. Most of the time was spent (as usual for me) making the decorations to go on it. I used one of those Just the Right Shoe brand of little collectible shoes to tie into the theme that Megan, the bride to be, had been "found" by her Prince Charming! Try as hard as I might, I could not find an affordable glass slipper for the cause. This shoe looked like one a bride might wear on her wedding day. I used a real face photo of the groom-to-be and superimposed it on a photo of my daughter's Prince Charming doll. Megan loved the decorations (photo and text were laminated) and couldn't wait for her future groom to see himself as a prince. I also hot glued magnets on the backs of the decorations so the newlyweds could enjoy them on their refrigerator for a while.

Dinosaur Birthday Cake
Owen had a dinosaur party when he turned 2 and here's the cake I made for him. It was chocolate with chocolate buttercream icing. The cake part was fast and easy, but the cake decorations were another story. I bought a rubber dinosaur and mounted a stick to his foot so I could stick it in the cake and get him to stay put. I rolled up a piece of colored paper and glued tiny pompom balls on it, frillies for the top and an elastic strap so it would stay on. I also hot glued some plastic greenery into odd designs to imitate the times on Earth when dinosaurs roamed. Owen loved his cake and, as always, I loved making it for him~

Horse Cowboy Birthday Cake
Graham had a real horse at his party for all of the little kids to ride. I made his "Pony Cake" as he called it using my favorite chocolate cake recipe. It is a creation of all the ideas I got right here on Cake Central from looking at all the other photos posted. The horse on top is a toy. I superimposed Graham's face onto a cowboy that I found on the internet. After printing it I laminated it so I could put it on top of the cake along with the horse head and regular candles. The fence is plastic. The horse heads around the cake are finger puppets. Everything else was edible. Graham loved his cake and now it's on to his next birthday cake. We're having a BATMAN party in February of 2010 so check back for pictures of his BATMAN cake.

Alligator Birthday Cake
I made this alligator cake for little Owen's 1st birthday. The hardest part was finding the right materials to make the board to put it on. I made cupcakes in three different sizes with a family favorite chocolate cake recipe. I used varying shades of green when I iced the cupcakes in order to give it a more realistic look. It was easy to draw on the eyes, nose, etc. with buttercream icing colored with cocoa and black food coloring. The little children at the party got a big kick out of this alligator cupcake cake and it was BIG fun to make. However, I learned a good lesson with this one: think about how to get it where it needs to be way ahead of time! This was a booger to transport!

Dolphin Cake
My daughter had me make this cake for her two year-old godson, Graham. The dolphin had to be jumping out of the water as that is what Graham is fixated on about dolphins. I tore apart a night light for the dolphin on the chocolate cake and incorporated the Under the Sea cake from M&M's website. The shells were made from candy molds. Graham loved his cake and I so enjoyed making it.
