My Daughter's College Graduation Cake
This cake was inspired by one by MYCHEFTX. My daughter saw it and ALMOST changed the design for her wedding cake to this one. Ultimately, she decided to stick with the original wedding cake design, so I decided to make this one for her graduation. It's a lemon pound cake with lemon curd filling.

25Th Anniversary
This is for a silver anniversary. The hydrangeas and leaves are gumpaste, and the scrolls and dots are royal icing on a buttercream cake. Dense chocolate cake with Bavarian cream filling. Scrolls are A LOT harder on the side of a cake than they were flat on the counter top on a piece of fondant!!

One Bite At A Time
This was for my SIL's graduation from college. Growing up, his parents told him when he had a difficult challenge to approach it the way you would eat an elephant - one bite at a time. His mom wanted that saying and an elephant on the cake, so I just made the cake an elephant. Rice krispy treats for head and feet. Dairy-free chocolate cake and chocolate buttercream. I'm not entirely happy with the scale of the body to the head, but everyone enjoyed it, and it was meaningful to him.

Good Bye/good Luck Cake
This is for a woman who has worked in the company's K-12 program. The company does a major effort in the schools encouraging kids to go into math and science careers, including a Math Fun d' Mentals program. So I put the math equations, company logo, etc., on the cake in gumpaste and RI. The design around the bottom is off a brochure they use, and is gumpaste. It's a lemon pound cake with lemon curd filling.

Wine Bottle
I'm so proud of this cake! It's a dark chocolate cake with chocolate ganache filling for a chocolate lover. The label is gumpaste and hand lettered for the birthday girl. The last line says, "Sweet character with spicy notes". The wine bottle is cake except for the gold part, which is rice krispy treats covered wtih gumpaste. The bottle is covered in fondant painted with gel icing. The wood sides are gumpaste scored with a knife for the woodgrain and painted with food color/vodka. White fondant for the fabric under the bottle.

Spring Cake
This cake is a copycat cake from one done by Leanne Winslow. It was done for a couple celebrating the blessing of their marriage in the Catholic church. She wanted something with spring colors that didn't look like a wedding cake. It's white cake with raspberry fluff filling. Thanks to Leanne for the inspiration. As usual, I'm not completely pleased with the final outcome - not as smooth as I'd wanted, but all in all I think it looks good.

Over The Hill Birthdays
This was a combined birthday cake for a woman turning 50 and a guy of undisclosed age. The group gets together at a vacation home community in the mountains. The only guidance I got was that he likes jello shots, so I did the hand sticking out of the grave with a jello shot in his hand. Gumpaste figures, the glass is a gelatin sheet; the trees are RI on pretzels; chocolate rocks. The cake is chocolate with raspberry filling.

Western Style Steelhead
This was a very weird combination of themes for a birthday cake for a cowgirl and a guy who loves to fish for steelhead. I did a lot of research on how to color the steelhead, which is made of gumpaste. I used silver luster dust on it, then painted on the dots and dry red petal dust. It's a chocolate fudge cake with Bavarian cream filling. The cake also has three gumpaste Texas stars on the sides along with the gumpaste cowgirl boots. Ropes are fondant.

Island Getaway
This cake was made for an auction with an island getaway theme. The decorations are gumpaste and fondant. I made the little seashells freehand. The sand is granulated brown sugar. The cake is lemon pound cake with lemon curd filling. So good I ate both cake tops all by myself! The design is an adaptation of a Sugar Shack cake.

Happy Mcbirthday
This is actually a birthday cake for two friends who very much identify with their Irish heritage, and whose birthdays are around St. Patrick's day. Gumpaste and fondant decorations. The light green fondant is also brushed with gold luster dust to give it more depth. I'm so pleased with this cake! It's an Italian Cream cake inside with cream cheese icing. Probably the best cake I have ever tasted.

My First Purse Cake
This was such a fun cake. I did learn not to make the purse too narrow at the bottom or it wants to tip over. Handle is gumpaste, oher embellishments are fondant. I painted the piping and handle with silver luster dust. I got the silver platter at the dollar store, which I thought was the perfect finishing touch. WASC with raspberry filling.

Just For Fun
I had leftover cake, filling, and icing from a couple of other cakes this weekend, and I'd been wanting to try this design by jaklotz1, so I did this for a co-worker's birthday tomorrow. Kind of a funky shape, but I think it's fun. It's vanilla cake with chocolate ganache and raspberry fillings - a regular smorgasbord!

Chocolate Through And Through
This is almost an exact copy of a beautiful cake I saw in the galleries and I CANNOT find the pic to give credit, so I apologize for that. This is chocolate fudge cake with chocolate ganache filling and chocolate fondant. Made for a co-workers birthday - everyone at the office loved it (you know how people are about chocolate!). Gumpaste and fondant accents. EDITED TO ADD: The original design is by KathysCC. I'm so glad she saw this and let us all know!!

Hat Box
This is an 18th birthday cake for a girl who loves to wear vintage hats. She also shares a love of yellow roses with her grandmother. All the decorative pieces are gumpaste. The pin on the hat is gumpaste with silver dragees. I brushed the gloves with white luster dust. The lid is styrofoam covered with gumpaste. The stripes on the side of the box are fondant. I had to use real net for the hat - just couldn't figure out how to make that edible!

Adrianna's Birthday
This cake is inspired by jkalman's beautiful design. It's a lemon pound cake with raspberry filling made for my niece's second birthday. It's buttercream with all gumpaste decorative pieces. One guest at the party told me she thought it was just a decoration and not real because it looked so perfect. That made me smile. The birthday girl ate all the curly ribbons off the top of the cake. Yikes!!

1961 Jaguar
This is the hardest cake I've ever made. Most of the pieces are made from gumpaste; cake covered in fondant. I did a lot of research to get the details of the 1961 Jaguar just right since it's the birthday boy's dream car. Lots of fun, but took about 20 hours in all, including a few hours of research to make a pattern and get the shape before I started carving. I was up until 3:30 this morning to finish it.

Blue And Green Birthday
This design is a copy of Sharon Zambito's fabulous cake that I made for my daughter's birthday. She just wanted a "blue" cake, so this fit the bill. It's a golden vanilla cake with fresh ground Jamaican nutmeg and Bailey's Irish Creme Bavarian Cream filling. Super yummy!! Leftovers were promptly consumed by my SIL's poker group. They love it when I bake - they eat a lot of cake top, too, so it was a treat to get actual cake.

Harley 50Th Birthday
This was for a 50th birthday for a guy who loves his Harley. He was amazed that so many details matched his bike that he took me out into his garage to have me take a look at the real bike (you know how guys are about their Harleys!!). I worked really hard to get all the details right on this one, so I'm pretty happy with the results. Thanks to "littlegrahamcracker" for the inspiration on the cake design.
