Pokemon Birthday
This cake was for 9-year-old Shawn who loves Pokemon. It was white cake with raspberry filling, vanilla buttercream, and all characters were gumpaste. I took pictures off the internet, blew them up, made paper patterns and cut them out with my Exacto knife. All hand cut and painted. The characters included Pikachu, Flareon, Growlithe, Pokemon Green, Pearl, and Charmander.

Pink Baby Carriage
I made this cake for a co-worker's baby shower. She's decorating in brown and pink polka dots and loves birds. They're not very visible in the picture, but there are gumpaste birds around the sides of the bottom tier. It's a good thing the cake was free because I misread the invitation and thought the baby's name is Paige (thus the P), but it's actually Lily Paige. Silly me - I read it as little Paige. She loved the cake so much that she didn't care. It was chocolate fudge with chocolate ganache on the top tier, and lemon cake with lemon curd on the bottom. I also made three dozen cake balls on lollipop sticks to go with the cake. It was a fun spread.

Sweet 16
This was for a sweet 16 birthday. The girl wanted something more sophisticated than a little girl's cake, but still kind of fun. It's buttercream with fondant accents, and gumpaste "16". This cake should have been easy, but it gave me fits. I took off the icing TWICE before I got it to look halfway decent. I guess some cakes just have to be that way. It's WASC with an almond custard filling.

Basque Sheepherder's Wagon
This is for a woman who has spent the last two years restoring a sheepherder's wagon, and her daughter wanted it to be prominent on the cake. The wagon, woman, and campfire are all gumpaste, treess are royal icing on pretzels, and the rocks are RKTs covered with fondant. I ground up raw sugar in the food processer for sand on top of the cake. White cake with raspberry filling and vanilla buttercream. I barely had room to fit all this stuff on the size cake she needed, and I have to say that I LOATHE making figures of people.

Hello Kitty Birthday
This is for a 6th birthday. It's buttercream with fondant bands around the bottom of each tier, and gumpaste decorations. The kitty on top was made on a skewer so I could stick it into the cake. White cake with raspberry filling. I'm not crazy about this cake. I just had a hard time with it from the beginning. I've decided I dislike colored icing altogether!

My "economy" Line
This is a dummy cake I made for a wedding show to illustrate my budget-friendly option. This is fondant with silk flowers and ribbon, but the actual cake has to be rounds with white buttercream and buttercream filling. The bride buys the ribbon and either silk or fresh flowers that I add to the cake. This allows the bride to match colors and control her cost by buying her own supplies and bringing them to me. I don't know if the concept will take off, but it seems like a decent option to me.

Pink Wedding
I took my inspiration for this cake from one by kingofcakes2. It's a dummy cake for my recent wedding show with pink fondant and white pearl dusted gumpaste flowers. The cake wasn't as pink to the eye as it shows up in this picture. It's paler - not as Pepto Bismal colored as the picture looks like.

Twelve Idaho Authors
I made this cake as a donation for the local literacy lab that teaches adults to read. A bookstore is having a reception and book signing for 12 Idaho authors and will have a silent auction for the cake. I used one of each of the authors' books on the cake. WOW, was this cake a lot of work, but I'm very pleased with the way it turned out, and it's for a great cause. I covered the cakes with fondant, then added the gumpaste book spines. The titles, etc. are either royal icing or hand painted food color. The top book covers are cardboard covered with fondant.

Citizenship Cake
This is for a woman who just received her U.S. citizenship status. The design was specified by the person who bought the cake. I don't think it's my most inspired work, but he loved it, so that's all that counts. This cake was a major pain. It looked awful after I iced it, so I took all the icing back off of it and started over. I don't like lettering on cakes, but he wanted the "my country, 'tis of thee", so that's what he got. I do like the waving effect on the gumpaste flag.

Corpse Bride
This is a copy of Pink Cake Box's corpse bride cake, and it was my first topsy turvy cake. The bride and groom topper was provided by the bride. The butterflies and dragonflies are edible rice paper. I used grey petal dust behind the swirls on the middle tier. Bottom tier was white cake with mocha filling, middle was chocolate fudge with Bavarian cream filling, and the top was chocolate fudge with raspberry.

My Daughter's Wedding
This is a re-post of my daughter's wedding cake (I just got the photographer's shots). It was a lemon pound cake with lemon curd filling, and almond buttermilk pound cake with Amaretto cream filling. It was so much work to do right before the wedding, but I wouldn't have had it any other way. I made all the 100+ gumpaste flowers for it , too.
