This was for the same group of ladies as the red hat cake, but they were celbrating one of the pink hatter's birthdays (I think it's below a certain age you're a pink hat, and then over that age you're a red hat).
This was for the high school girls' soccer team at the end of the season. The sheet cake is done in buttercream, but the ball is covered in fondant.
This little boy wanted a jolly roger flag. I hope someone take a picture of the kids at the party after eating this cake...with all their black teeth!
U Of M Cake
This isn't the NFL, but it's a college football cake. It's supposed to be "The Big House" with an overhead view of the field. Lots of "maize and blue" dots for the spectators....made me kind of dizzy after a while.
This was for a little boy who wants to be a cowboy. His mom came into the bakery with a little photo of her son's face and wanted me to turn it into a cowboy. I did a Western scene behind him. I wasn't sure how it would come out, but I think it looks okay. At least they know that it's a photo and no one will try to eat it!
This one was actually for my daughter, owner of two turtles named Turby and Squirt, and future turtle rescue worker. She wanted a turtle cake.
This was for a local gingerbread house contest. I won first place. It was my first time building a gingerbread house, so I was really surprised I won. The house is all gingerbread and the decorations are all royal icing and gumpaste. The only non-edible thing is the cotton smoke int he chimney--I planned on using cotton candy, but I could only find pink and blue in the store. I wanted to use all hand-made decorations and no commercial candy, so at least I accomplished my goal (minus the cotton!).
This cake was ordered by the wife of a die-hard deer hunter. She wanted the deer hanging from the tree, gutted and everything. It also has a camo border. It's probably the grossest cake I ever made.
This customer called me 6 days before his wedding to order a cake--it was over Labor Day weekend and my bakery was closed 3 out of those 6 days--talk about last minute! Luckily it all worked out!
