Blondie's Wedding Cake
The bride wanted lots of color and Carolina blue. The groom wanted coconut on top. The groom's 6-year-old wanted white stars on the cake, and the MotB wanted me to paint the groom on the topper blue, because the groom's nickname is Smurf. So they all got their wish. this was an emergency wedding cake, as their cake lady had to bow out at the very last minute. I had three days to plan and execute! :P WASC cake with buttercream icing. I did all the roses in the 'on a stick' method, which ROCKS. 12-8-6"

Basket Of Flowers
Made for a classmate at college, but we ended up not being able to make it to class that night, so here's the cake. :P Chocolate sour cream cake with chocolate frosting/basketweave and buttercream decorations. Made the roses 'on a stick' style. 6" cake. There will be cupcakes to match.

Poinsettia Cupcakes
We had a final exam review in my college algebra class this week. I opened my big mouth and suggested a party... and got put in charge of the whole thing. :P Anyhow, I spent too much time studying instead of making the cake I'd planned on, so I ended up doing these cupcakes instead. No one complained! :) Yellow cake with store-bought cream cheese icing. (I figured studying was more important than making icing from scratch just this once!)

Fall Demo
I had to do an oral presentation in English, and decided to do it for cake decorating. The class did NOT object, especially since I shared cake afterwards. :) Needless to say, I got an A. (not because I did a great job on the cake, but because I brought food. Most of my class are the younger, just-out-of-high-school crowd. Those kids can EAT!) :) I did pre-decorate the bottom two tiers, and showed decorating the top tier. Amazing how impressive a large basket-weave is! *grin*

Scott's First Birthday Party
Treasure chest cake and grinning pirate smash cake. :) This was for my cousin's son on his first birthday. Treasure chest is butter yellow cake with buttercream frosting. 'Sand' is buttercream with crushed graham crackers on top. (The coins are plastic... couldn't find any chocolate ones near my home!) The smash cake is white cake with buttercream, and wow did the little guy make a mess. Just as it should be! :) TFL!

Emergency Birthday Cake
This was a major rush job! LOL Got the call at 2:45 this afternoon that my best friends were going to be in town for their birthday dinner, when we'd thought they wouldn't. We had to leave the house no later than 5:30. So yeah... rush job! The cake wasn't even completely cooled! LOL Super Moist Butter Yellow (had to be a mix... we were out of sugar and no time to run to the store, so the mix won), buttercream icing. They had bets going as to whether we'd be late showing up because I tried to make the cake

Tabby's Bday Cake
This was for my cousin's 9 year old. She loves blue roses, and wanted something special, since the family was out of town for her birthday (July 3). She ended up having a small teaparty for her birthday, and hugged me so hard saying it was the best birthday cake ever. :) 6, 4, 3, 2, all single layer. Sitting on a home-made mini cake stand. Cupcakes to match. WASC and buttercream. TLF!

Alex's 1St Birthday
Mom and Dad wanted a sports theme with Carolina Tarheels colors where possible. :) 12" square is white butter sour cream (butter flavor instead of almond. Very tasty!), basketball is red velvet, soccer ball is devil's food, and the duffel bag is lemon. Buttercream over all, with fondant accents. Cuppies and smash cake to match in next photo.

Chess Club End-Of-Year Party
Requested by a friend of my cousin... she's the advisor for the chess club at the elementary school where she teaches. The kids went nuts over this. (Red and yellow are the school's colors) Chocolate fudge bottom layer, butter yellow top layer, buttercream icing. Chocolate and white mint chocolate for the pieces. Thanks for looking.

Brothers And Hubby Out Of School For The Summer
I did these 'book' cakes to take to my folks' house this weekend. We were celebrating the fact that two of my brothers, as well as my DH, were out of school for the summer, and they all made straight A's. :) Not bad, for a bunch of 'college kids'. Notebook is spice cake, math book is strawberry. Both with crusting cream cheese icing. Not my best work, but it served its purpose. :P And they didn't care what it looked like, although my middle brother did say, "Awww... she made us nerd cake!"

Daisies And Vines
A pre-cut cake, just for practice on several different techniques... the icing was much lighter when I left the house that morning! When I came back, all of the colors had darkened considerably. :P but it should still taste good, right? I was able to use up some leftover RI flowers, too, so that was nice. :) WASC with buttercream icing. TFL! eta: the slight crevice on the left was due to too weak a cake board and me trying to carry too much at once! LOL Almost lost the cake on that one... :P

We'll Miss You!!!
a cake for my best friends' going-away party tonight. They're moving to another town tomorrow. :( This was supposed to look like a moving box, but the fondant ripped, it's muggy and hot here, and the buttercream didn't want to cooperate. I'll consider myself lucky if it makes it to the party in one piece with all the icing still on it! LOL The fondant ended up not getting to be on this cake. That'll teach it... Butter recipe yellow cake with buttercream icing.

Practice, Practice, Practice...
I tried two new-to-me techniques today. The first was the upside down smoothing technique that's in the articles section here. The second, well, I am in awe of Thanh Thanh, and was just inspired to play around and just try to make something a fraction as pretty as she does. Hey, it's my first time! :) Thanks for looking! (yellow cake, buttercream frosting)

Sil's Birthday Cake
My sister-in-law had no clue that the cake I was 'practicing' (on her birthday, in her favorite flavors) was really for her. :) Best part is that we only ate the top tier tonight... I was able to write Happy Birthday Sam on the second tier, and we'll have that and the bottom for tomorrow's family party. :) Cool... recycling cakes! :) Cakes are 12", 9", and 6" hearts, two layers each of dark chocolate fudge cake and milk chocolate frosting. Accents in MMF and buttercream.

Chess Cake For 60Th Birthday
This was the cake I made for my FIL's 60th. He loves chess, and my SIL suggested that as the theme. It was my first attempt at making 3-D candy, and I need more practice at that, as well as keeping in the lines on the chess board, but all in all, I was pleased with the outcome. He loved it, and several games of chess were actually played on the cake as the party went on. :) 16" two layer spice cake with buttercream icing. medallions and chess pieces in milk chocolate and white chocolate mint.
