Birthday Cake For Mother In Law
Simple 9x13 almond flavored cake. All buttercream. I have to give credit to Thanh Thanh. Her cakes are so lovely and I tried to implement some of her arrangement of flowers into my design.
Christmas Cake For New Parents
I made this cake for my son and daughter in law. They have a new baby and I thought this would be appropriate for them. I was inspired by Karentje. It is an 8 inch cake using the White Chocolate Mudslide creamer and the taste was wonderful. These were my first fondant figures and I was pretty happy with how they turned out. It was really fun to do.
I wanted to try my hand at the sotas. I had a cake like this in mind and when I saw sue_dye's cake, I decided to give it a try. Her cake came out beautiful. I know next time to thin down my icing a bit.
Valentines Birthday Cake
Wasn't real happy with the outcome of this one. Can't really put my finger on it but to me something just doesn't flow well. Anyway, it's a 9x13 vanilla caramel cake with caramel filling and vanilla buttercream frosting. I hope that it tasted as good as it smelled.
An attempt at making poinsettias. This is a 9x13 vanilla caramel cake with caramel flavored icing. All in buttercream.
First Attempt At A Tier Cake
This is a close up of the bottom cake on the tiered wedding cake that I just uploaded. This cake is the Bride's cake with raspberry filling and white chocolate buttercream frosting. This is a 10 inch cake using an 11 inch plate and 9 inch push-in pillars. It is all buttercream.
butter pecan cake with maple icing. Everything is buttercream. This was my first time decorating a rectagular shaped cake. Wasn't quite sure where to place anything. Sure is different then doing a round cake. Hope mom likes it.... The size is a 9x13 and I used a swag marker for the sides.
Another 9 Inch Round Cake
I had some left over peach roses and thought I would use them up on yet another practice cake. I think I'm going to try my hand at a sheet cake next time :o) I'm thinking of ordering a cake decorating DVD. Maybe I can get some new ideas and it would be wonderful to see how flowers are supposed to be made :o) This 9 inch round was a Pina Colada cake with buttercream icing flavored with pineapple and coconut. This was probably the cake that made me gain the 7 pounds that registered on the scale this morning.
This is my first try at the basketweave and the rope border. I LOVED doing the basketweave! I was disappointed that I was not able to mound the center of the flowers like I wanted but I discovered that the top of the cake would be too tall for the top of the cake taker if I increased the height of the flowers. I bought a larger cake taker and you can bet I'm going to try it again. I really enjoyed doing that design. So much fun!!
Just another practice cake. Everything is buttercream. I don't know why the rose buds came out darker in the picture. All the flowers are the same color of yellow. I wanted to try my hand at the Cornelli lace. I learned that the icing needs to be a lot thinner than what it was. Wow, my wrist and hand was sore for days :o)
I thought I would try adding a few colors together. Still trying to get the roses down. It's hard trying to figure out how to make them from a book. The instructions just don't make a lot of sense to me. The icing and decorations are all buttercream. That's all I know how to make so far :o)
Mother In Law Birthday Cake
Even though I am new at decorating, I really wanted this one to turn out because it was for my Mother in Law. I started putting on the roses and before I knew it, I had a rose garden :o) It wasn't perfect by no means but I think she liked it.
