Here Comes Santa Clause
Santa's made out of modeling chocolate. This is the first time I've made a "real" person out of chocolate. Not bad for my first try. The bricks are fondant and the grout and snow are royal icing.
Nike Grooms Cake
Here is a cake I did for a co-worker. Her future husband was really into shoes, all the grooms men wore these shoes so the thought it would be fun to replicate it. First show cake I'd ever done....lots of fun.
Fitz's & Tostino's
So I got to splerge a little this year with my income tax return and got an eatable image printer. So I used it to make my daughters 13th birthday cake. She loves pizza rolls and Fitz's cream soda (bottled in St. Louis). No one could believe it was real. My skills as a graphic designer are more evident in this than my decorating skills, but it was such a fun cake to make. This is also the first time I had made poured sugar bottles.
All Mixed Up Kids Cake
Several years ago (like 5 actually) I did a cake for my 3 year old daughter that had several kids themes on it (called Spongeberry Doradumpling). It was one of my first topsy turvy cakes and I was so proud of it. History has repeated itself and my son who turned 4 could not decide what he wanted so I went back in time and mixed it up again. This is a mixture of Spongebob, Spiderman, Scooby Doo and Phineaus and Ferb. I hope you all enjoy this one as much as you enjoyed my first.
This was a fun cake to do, it turned out twice as big as I had planned. All 4 characters are made of gumpaste. The cake stood around 16 inches tall and weighed a ton. It was for a set of twins turning one. I'd never heard of Super Why before, it's a PBS show.
This is a cake that I did for a local cake competition. The theme was extreme children's birthday cakes....I won best of show.
This was the biggest, most detailed wedding cake I've ever done, 6 tiers and 2 side cakes. Cinderella themed. And - it had a lot of firsts for me. Poured sugar diamonds, lights in the cake (behind the diamonds), and stencling. Thanks for looking.
I was excited to do this one...she asked for another toilet cake...but I talked her into a full bathroom scene. This was for a man's 40th birthday party. It's a mans bathroom complete with a stack of naughty magazines, the little blue pills, hair tonic, prep-H cream, and dentures. The ice was made with little bits of dried gumpaste mixed with silk white luster dust and white sparkle dust. The base, toilet, bathtub, and sink basin are all cake. The decorations are made of gumpaste and fondant. Magazines and labels on the beer were printed on paper. Coolest part, 3 of the magazine covers were from the year he was born.
Purple Rose Wedding
This is a 6", 8" and 10" wedding cake. Covered in fondant, piped fillagree work. Two shades of gumpaste roases were made. This cake also had 65 mini wedding cakes with the same filagree work....took forever!!!!
This was for a graduation party that happened to fall on his 21st birthday. His mom wanted to give him his favorite character from when he was a kid...and that was Barney. This was made of six stacked cakes ranging from 6" to 10". Head is stryofoam. All covered in white and airbrushed in purple.
Death By Chocolate
This was for my girls combo birthday party. They wanted a candy cake with M&M's....so here is what we came up with. My 11 year old covered the top two tiers. Everything was stuck on with chocolate. The M&M's on top were made of gumpaste. It was a skate party so the M&M's are wearing rollerskates.
This was for a graduation party. When the grad was a kid she loved Elmo. This is a 12" and 8" cake. Elmo is made out of gumpaste, the plaque on top is made out of gumpaste and is hand painted, the sides of the cake are all done with airbrush. Thanks for looking!
This is my son's birthday cake. He is turning two and loves "Bob-Bob". I used an internal pvc pipe structure. It's four sheet cakes cut in half and stacked on top of each other. It's huge. Only problem is that I forgot to put supports in between each section...so I'm anticipating it collapsing some time before the party tomorrow. How does a person forget to put supports in? I'm shaking my head in shame. "Dear God," please don't let my cake collapse because of my own stupidity." Fortunately my son is only 2 so he won't be able to use this against me in the future...hehehe
I did this display cake for a groop called the Better Breathers a lung support group that is celebrating their 20th Anniversary. It's a dummy cake just for display. Thanks for looking.
Internal Structure For M&m Skateboard Cake
This is the internal structure for my M&M Skateboard cake. The cake part of this is the skateboard and the board it is on is a real skateboard. The pvc structure is attached to the skateboard and the skateboard is bolted onto a wood board. My husband helped hook everything together, it was really funny because he really got into it.
A few weeks ago at a local cake club meeting, I learned how to build an internal cake structure out of pvc pipe, and couldn't wait to try it. My nephews said they wanted two M&M's on a skateboard for their party, so I decided to go for it. It does not look nearly as good in reality as it did in my head, but I got it done and everyone was impressed at the party. Lots of first on this - first time making and using modeling chocolate for the bodies, I used Sugarveil for the paint splatters, pvc pipe internal structure, and we got to use power tools to build the stand. I'd love to hear what you think. TFL.
Handy Manny - the new It Guy! All of the characters are made of gumpaste and hand painted. This was a lot more challenging that I thought it would be, but I was happy overall.
Kiwanis Club Pancake Day
I was charged with bringing a cake to my Kiwanis Club Valentines Day party...so everyone expected something pink with hearts. So I tricked them all and brough a stack of pancakes with sausage on the side. My club does a huge Pancake Day every year, so this was fun to do.
Chocolate Wedding Dress
This was a dummy made for a show. I was planning on making it in white, but my fondant shipment came late, so I desided to give chocolate fondant a try. I'm glad I did, I though it was really fun.
Hannah Montana With Stars & Guitars
This was for a 6 year old who loved Hannah's guittar. It's a one layer wilton star pan, toped with two six inch cakes. Each tier is suspended with SFS. Thanks for looking.
Wizard - Youth Spell
This was my attempt at a Deb Brown cake. It was for my brothers and FIL combined birthday party. It was fun practice, I'm pleased with the outcome. It's a chocolate mudslide cake...yummy. Thanks for looking
You've Been Naughty
You've been naughty, so here's the scoop, all you get for Christmas is snowman poop. This was a cake done for a co-workers birthday this week. She insisted that we not have a party for her - so we punished her by throwing her a party with a twist. The cake is covered in boiled icing....this was the first time I had ever made this type of icing...it was really good! The snowman was made out of gumpaste. The saying was based on a goofy poem I've heard at Christmas.
Cheese Burger & Frys
This is my take on a burger and fry cake. Burger is 3 6" cakes. Fry's are a cut up yellow 6" cake. Bun is airbrushed. Burger is covered with chocolate fondant. Tomatoe, letus, pickle are all made of fondant. This was made for a 16th birthday party.
Do You Take This Frog....
This was for a 40th Wedding Anniversary. The lilly pads on the board spell out "Still 2 Horney Toads"...clearly a couple with a sence of humor. 10" and 6" cakes. Thanks For Looking!
Twas The Night Before Christmas
I did this cake for a local competition. It had a thousand (not literally) little details. I came in 3rd, it was my first competition, so I guess that's not to bad. Thanks for looking.
