How do you make your buttercream with butter and shortening?

You can take any buttercream recipe you like, and switch out some of the butter for shortening. Or vice versa. :)
I forgot to answer your first question! To keep it looking nice, the key is using a smooth, uniform movement, while using your horizontal guidelines to keep you on track. It's a very small movement, made with my right hand (my piping hand), while my left hand is slowly and steadily turning the turntable. Hope that helps!
