Hey guys.

I have a lady who has asked for a 'wildlife' cake for her sister, who is a farmer working for a wildlife trust.

She hasn't given any indication what she wants the cake to look like (other than 'round', lol), said just to do what I feel is best.

She's just sent me some of photos that her sister has taken of puffins, a horse, pony, falcon looking thing, and an otter. So I assume those are the animals she wants on the cake. Her sister also looks after sheep and has a collie dog.....

I just have no idea how to incorporate these randoms animals onto a cake so that they don't just look chucked on there and out of place. They don't really come from the same environments.

Does anybody have any ideas or can find a good inspiration photo? I am drawing a blank here, I am pretty useless at coming up with my own ideas when I have nothing to work with to begin with.

Thanks for reading.

so make some water on the top of the cake like an 'eternity pool' that will spill over one edge and make a fenced corral and some softly rolling hills/pasture on the other side

so dot a few puffins around the rocks that surround the water put an otter in the water set the falcon on the fence put the sheep in the pasture with the collie out there tending them

bam

the horse and pony are in the corral of course -- the corral could back up to the rocks that border the stream/ocean water maybe -- depending on the size of the cake the sheep could be barely dots in the distance as well as the dog

Ah K8 in your element again I see? I love your ideas....though the moose in a hairnet took some beating.

On a serious note this sounds like a cake I'd pin the client down on a bit, too much room for error when they are "leaving it up to you".

haha thank you k8, I'm trying so hard to picture it

and yeah I agree, I think I'm just afraid to come up with anything because I don't know what she wants..... I sent her some pics of other cakes and she didn't really like any.

anyway, I'll come up with something, thanks both

The first thing that comes to mind for me is a green-topped cake with cliff sides and water round the bottom although that's a lot of work with tiny details.....  to be honest I keep getting distracted by slightly 'me' ideas; like a big big cooking pot with bits from all those cute animals floating on the bubbling surface! (that'd go down well ha ha!!) or a man with binoculars in a hide with nothing in front of him but all the animals behind him......

Ooh lightbulb moment: Would a book cake done as a spotting guide work?? hmm... a little GP pencil and some funny annotations and ticks beside the pictures would be great and not too difficult to make......
