Other cake sites have more stringent joining procedures - maybe Cake Central should adopt a similar concept.  Some sites even limit new members to eliminate this problem.

I'm off to bed.  All that stuff is ridiculous.  I want to hear about people's cake probs and triumphs not all that black magic and voodoo spam.

Oh my goodness, I just want to gouge my eyes out!!  Can we block threads started by specific users?  Maybe that way we won't have to see it while the mods deal with it

I just noticed that one of these spammers just created their account today and had already made 136 posts.  Maybe new users should be limited to a few posts per day until they're cleared as a "real" user.  I don't know what the best thing is, but this is ridiculous.  I guess I'll just try back in a few days.

AIt must be pretty sophisticated software, to create an account, do the email verification thingy, and then create posts. Cause it's all automatic, there isn't someone sitting there typing things out physically here on this site. From what I understand about bot programs. Imagine all the forums they hit at once. Interesting really, annoying, but interesting.

AYeah, I think a better system of checks and balances is in order for new accounts. Heck, maybe they are even circumventing that all together and can just load threads without making accounts. Now that would be high tech. Hmmmmm.

AFun times! hey guys, just a quick update.. I have been work with the Huddler folks to clean up all the spam and fix the issues that we're allowing it it to happen in the first place. things are looking up! we should be back to normal now, keep using the flag post if any more spam gets through again, that has been extremely helpful.

I asked my IT son this..."Would it be hard for a spammer to set up a bot to..." and he started shaking his head no before I even finished. I told him what was going on and he said the forum administrators  need to use "something simple and standard" like a captcha system...

AAh, captcha. Yep. Definitely need eyeballs to get past that.

A mini attack overnight I see... At least it wasn't 15 pages... lol

I've never understood spam, what is the point? is there a point?

I've wondered this, too. Seems pointless. Maybe it's just a way for the attacker to feel better.
