Hello CC !

Here is a pic of a cake I'd like to do for a 2 year old bday.  Only need to feed roughly 20 ppl.  Mom only wants to spend $100.

1.   Should I do Mickey out of rice krispy covered in fondant?

2.   Gift box could be the actual cake

3.   In your opinion, how difficult or time consuming would Mickey be?

Any other ideas to make this cake under $100 ?

Thank you!!!!

:-D

1: Make it out of RKT, but get practising - that Mickey is perfectly done.

2: Yes, make the cake the present. You can get started on Mickey asap that way.

3: Very time consuming - see point 1.

4: You shouldn't charge for this cake at all unless you want to be hounded by Disney and receive cease and desist letters.

5: Unless you charge $2 a portion, don't do it for $100! A 20 portion square would be large, so Mickey would be huge. There are a lot of hours work in that sculpture.

AI definitely would not do that cake for $100. Not only is there quite an investment of ingredients and materials, but it requires advanced skills not every baker on the corner has. You can decide for yourself whether to take the chance to charge for a copyrighted work, but do yourself the favor of charging appropriately for such a custom piece. :) I dont think there is anything I could do to get it under $100, except changing the design altogether. Perhaps an eight inch cake with a small Mickey topper holding a present?

Many, many years ago I made a cake for my niece out of a Wilton book that was a three dimensional Pooh sitting on top of a large cake decorating a smaller cake. It was huge. And I had never made "fancy" cakes before that so I had not the first inkling the mess of work I was getting myself into! Lol

So glad I asked!  I do not do this as a business - this 'client' is a friend of a friend. I've sculpted cakes before, bugs, cars, etc. so I'm not new to the field, BUT I am assuming that I still canNOT do the Mickey due to copyright issues?

Also, my plan was to make this in a smaller version.  Possibly just his head on the cake?

:o

Sorry. Putting the word 'client' in quotes does not remove the copyright infringement issue. Disney and other copyright holders have been sending out cease and desist orders.

It's just like lots of people speed, but only a few get caught.

Also some don't have a legitimate business and still post cake photos all over the internet.

and I should say there are people like me, a hobby baker, that would make something like a mickey or Minnie cake but not for sale.

 ♦ I don't think that's illegal.♦

Thank you so much everyone!  So glad I checked this out first....think it's a little ridiculous for those of us who are not trying to 'steal' anything, but whatever!  I'm a rule follower!:?
