So tired of running my metal blade under hot running water or keeping a shallow pan full of water on the stove on a hot summers night to heat my metal offset spatula (for smoothing icing).  Wish someone would come up with a tall cylinder full of hot water that you plug in to keep it hot, and has two slots you can keep two offset spatulas in - one for the one you're now using and the other - a spare to use while your other one is heating up.  I guess there would be a danger of it tipping and scalding someone - then again there's danger in a pan of hot water on the stove - wish someone would solve this problem for us.  Just sounding off.

Just an idea, but it is not tall and cylinder. lol   What about using a small crockpot?  I have a small one for melting chocolate. That might work for you.

That could work, and I also thought of an old fashioned coffee perculator, just trying to keep the heat and steam down in the kitchen during hot summer nights.  Thanks for listening.

I use my crock pot, it has a rubber lip around the top, so I can rest handles against it and they don't slip down.

AWhile you are looking for inventors, how about a self heating spatula, so you don't need the water? Like a flat iron for a cake. Would be best if it was cordless with a heating dock that you could set it in for heating.

bwahaha, I rigged up this ridiculously complicated thing with a tall novelty mug in a mini crockpot awhile ago, when my large crockpot bit the dust, a thermos never even occurred to me.

sometimes the low knowledge person, outside of the field, see things differently.  Looking at it with fresh eyes maybe?   but actually we have about a dozen thermos in every size and shape for every occasion in our Alaska Shack.

I thought of that too, but then realized you need the water for cleaning the spatula

Two words... Blow. Torch.  Seriously, its the best thing in the world.  In just a second my spatula is nice and hot and I don't get water everywhere.  I just have to make sure my spatula stays nice and clean, but you have to do that with water too.

AMy electric jug does not have an exposed element so I fill it, boil it and then take the lid off and the offset spatula fits in fine.

When you say electric jug, I'm thinking of my electric water boiling pot. Yes, if the lid came off mine, it would be perfect.

Electric Tea Pot, or Electric Tea Kettle is how it's listed in my American shopping catalogs.

My brain was stuck in gear on my last post.

Could you just hold the spatula, in an open gas flame on the top of the stove for a second?  I'm not in business, so I need the Keep It Simple Stupid style (& cheap) options.

AI have an electric griddle that I use when working with chocolate, and I just turn it on and rest my spatulas on the surface. I use two so I can have one heating while I use the other. Just wipe the blade off each time with a damp rag.

Probably, I don't have a gas stove. I got my blow torch at the Home Depot with an electric starter that screws on top and it wasn't very much money, maybe $30. I have used it for 7 years and I'm still on my first tank, so it goes a long way!
