Hey my cake friends, I've been gone from CC for a minute and now I'm back...I missed you you guys.

Please tell my all that I've missed out on...new trends and techniques, new toys and tools (I've seen the silicone onlays by Marvelous Molds they're awesome!) new recipes etc.  The site has changed so I'm working my way through slowly trying to catch up; have they added a dessert table section yet.  Please share pictures and links for all that I have to catch up on.  TIA!

Welcome back :)

Yes, the site has changed and some of it is a great improvement some of it not so much.

I don't think there is a dessert table category but lots of other new stuff..

Yummy, Welcome back!  but did you say you've been gone for about a "minute"  guess the others didn't catch that.  Yes I know things change at lightening speed, rofl...

ALol, I guess I am cooler than I thought, since I knew that "a minute" meant a long time, in this instance.

and what irks me the most lately (not only here on CC) but increasingly in the community of new mums embarking on their caking career (because I LOVE it and I can do it at home with the kids, cats, dogs, weezils etc)

"I charge REALISTIC, AFFORDABLE prices.... unlike those cake shops that are charging thousands!"

yep - that same person is charging $120 for a 3 tier wedding cake  (which in Australia would be about the correct price for a 6inch BASIC cake)  and it wouldn't be such a bitter pill to swallow if the cake was UGLY, crooked, poorly executed even .... they are actually pretty good :(

I even thought I might do her a favour and suggested that perhaps she might need to have a re-think about her pricing... ummmm - her reply was unprintable!   suffice to say - she thinks her business is booming and I am just jealous!

Ummm - at an age now where I would rather go have a tea party with my grandaughters than slave over 10 cakes a week and PAY them to take them off my hands!

LMAO at weezils! We don't have weasels here, but we do have 4 pet rats. They are really the best pets ever, since dogs are much too much work, and I am not a cat person.

But I know what you mean! There was a young lady I spoke to about illegal cakes that lives close to me, and her cakes were really pretty good! I talked to her about pricing and she was just disgusted over my prices, and kept advertising "affordable" Funny thing is, she finally shut down her Facebook cake page and left a rant about people not appreciating her cakes and that she has the lowest prices and people still want them lower, and how she never sees her kids. I was LMAO when I read that, too!

I had 1 $700 order last week, and that was fine with me. The bakery is clean, I went on a date with my husband, and went swimming and got ice cream. I had no cakes 2 weeks ago, and did some puttering around the yard and refused 3 orders that wanted me to give them away. All is well here, with my "outrageous" prices!

You just pipe it all on, and start drinking! It should start looking more and more like the original after about 2-6 servings of alcohol, depending on your weight and tolerance ;-)

15. Advice please! (Even though I am going to do what I want and whine if someone disagrees with me!)

And that advice should include: your best ever recipe, how to fill a cake, a great design for a cake, one of your Best photos so I can use it on my FB, how to get really smooth buttercream, how to support it, how to market myself & how much to charge.

Ill need all these answers Right NOW or ill repost in an hour again & again until someone answers...especially on Friday.

ALWAYS on a Friday! And they think that we professionals hate them because we never answered the question we were too busy to even read, and here it is 2 weeks later and they hate every last one of us now...... Good riddance!

AHero worship is still rampant here. Seems the only advice that's needed is that from people with either failed or closed businesses. Those of us who operate successful businesses still have no idea what we are talking about. *ahem*

Assuming you mean "heeded" instead of "needed", I'm not sure I see what you are referring to happening on CC.

I see plenty of people thanking other people when they post helpful advice, but I certainly wouldn't call that "hero worship". I also don't see much advice being posted by people with failed or closed businesses in the first place, much less said advice being taken over the advice of others.
