Butter Icing

Butter icing is a quick and attractive topping for a cake.

Butter Icing


  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups icing (confectioners) sugar, sifted
  • 2 tsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla essense (extract)


  1. Place the butter in a bowl. Using a wooden spoon or electric mixer, beat until light and fluffy.
  2. Stir in sugar, milk and vanilla until evenly mixed, then beat well until light and smooth.
  3. Spread the icing over the cake with a metal spatula.
