Butterscotch buttercream frosting

I needed this to compliment a banana cream filling. It was suprisingly VERY good! I have officially added it to my menu of frostings!

Butterscotch buttercream frosting

  • 1 stick butter (softened)
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 cups powered sugar
  • 1/4 cup butterscotch morsels (I use Nestle)
  • 2 tablespoons of milk
  • 3-4 tablespoons of water

  1. 1. Beat butter, shortening and extract until creamy.
  2. 2. Add powered sugar, 3 tablespoons of water and mix on medium speed for about 4 minutes.
  3. 3. In a separate bowl, melt the butterscotch morsels in a warm microwave. For about 30 seconds. Stirring every 15 seconds. Add milk, and continue to heat until melted and creamy. Continue to stir every 15 seconds.
  4. 4. Add the butterscotch mixture to mixing bowl and mix on medium speed for 1 minute.
  5. If needed, add the 4th tablespoon of water and mix until frosting and creamy, color is light brown and texture is smooth.
