Grrrrrrr......

Grrrrrrr...... on Cake Central

Just thought I'd share this with you guys and put a smile on your face - cake board is 36"x26", covered in fondant, and carved to look like a wood floor. (This is the base for a 3-D roasted pig) My dad came over tonight to say happy birthday to my husband, and didn't know this was fondant, and leaned his elbow into it!! Sigh. I'm just going to make sure I cover it with a fondant lettuce leaf! :):):)

Wow! Thank you everyone! I'll post the picture of the cake once it's done. (hopefully today! :) ) Aussienyankie - it's really, really simple - tint your fondant to a light brown and cover your cake board. Mark your lines in your fondant lengthwise and across - I used my level to mark it and to space it. Offset it a little to get the realistic wood floor look. I used Wilton tip#12 to mark the nails. From there, you just take your largest kitchen paint brush and brush on a mixture of water,

brown and red for mahogany, then paint your nails silver. Oh - before you paint, mark long wavy lines in each board with the back of a knife. That's it!

I didn't realize you had photographed the hole. You have to put up a sign "watch the cake" in your house. My family & office gave up asking "is that a cake?". At least it wasn't for a customer!

I'll say what someone told me when I had a similar situation with a woman lifting the lid on my treasure chest (not meant to be lifted and cracked the corner Grrr.....) 'what a compliment that he couldn't tell it was cake/fondant'. . . looks great!!! :D
