P-51 Mustang Wwii Fighter Plane

P-51 Mustang Wwii Fighter Plane on Cake Central

This is a WWII P-51 Mustang fighter plane for a birthday boy. Covered in fondant. This one proved to be a real challenge... mainly the tail piece. The thin body design wasnt helpful either haha. Sheesh!! Only got 2 hours sleep haha. But so Happy Its OVER!!!

Critique group member: Very nice! I think the sky color is definately too dark and the clouds are way out of proportion. Try to invision how it would look if you were actually looking out the window.

critique group member: wow! this cake looks really hard. I really love the character of your plane. the board could have been a little bigger and I am not sure if you layed down fondant and then airbrushed after you put the plane on? I would have done this first since it looks like you got blue on the plane. Maybe a lighter blue as well with bigger clouds. I know how much work sculpted cakes are since I do them! NOTHING ever goes right! This is a very nice cake and I am sure that they bday boy enjoyed it!

Critique subgroup member: excellent design! I love the plane. I'm not big on the blue that transferred to the plane, maybe adding clouds to it instead would be more complimentary. The cake board should be bigger and I agree with the color of blue being too strong and the clouds being bigger. STILL- it is a great design and one you should do again, as I bet it could be a big seller :) Also, great job applying the name tag onto the board instead of on the cake itself :)

Critique subgroup member: Although there is a lot of work here and the design is difficult as is the whole look, I can tell this is an older cake of yours. The doesn't seem to be thought out as the other two cakes and it's construction is less clean. But this is still a great cake & was probably highly appreciated! The things I would have changed is how close the whole cake is too the edges. A problem just waiting to happen in transit. The sky blue is too strong. Clouds are too little. Still cool tho!

critique subgroup member: Great details that really gave the cake personality! This is what I mean that the board becomes part of the cake! though again it needs to be a bit bigger and I too think the blue could have been toned down a bit.( but then I have a thing about eating dark colors, I think it's called OCD) I am also thinking you purposely sprayed the blue sky on the plane to make it appear as the sky to give a look of the tail being off the board???? I think you did a great job!

Critique subgroup member: Having done a plane myself, I can really appreciate the work you put into this! I bet they were thrilled. Great design and board. Looks really great overall. A little bumpy in some places, but kudos to you for keeping to the slim body design. I had trouble with this and opted for larger. Love how the wings, especially the back wings came out. Great colors too!

Critique Subgroup Member: Overall the plane is great. I agree with the dark sky but that's a matter of taste. I think you would have bee weel served to use white cotton candy for the clouds. I do and it gives it a whole new "airy" look and the kids will eat it up. As I said, I do 3d's and i really like ths one!
