Peonies
This was inspired from the cover of one of the bridal mags. To be honest the bride called me afterwards and said that she was disappointed and that the cake looked sloppy! I am my own worst critic and not even I would say that my work was sloppy! The fondant ribbon was not perfect and I admit that, but I think to say sloppy is harsh. I display the cake proudly in my cake and get compliments on it, so there.
I mean I display it in my cake book.
Wow, that was harsh.........you should proudly display it........it's a beautiful cake- some people are never satisfied- I am sure many people will agree with me here! :D
How rude of the bride - I think it looks great - if she had wanted perfect ribbons she should have asked for REAL ribbon. But hold your head high and by all means keep it in your book.
My girls and I love the cake and think it is great- like all your cakes.
i did a similar design except without the middle ribbon (bride didnt want it) it hought mine was a little sloppy too. the original cake bride showed me was done in fondant. im just not that good at getting buttercream supersmooth yet. i used real ribbon. i think your cake looks good
I love it! I think it is VERY Pretty! Personally I like it with the fondant ribbon not perfect, I think it looks more interesting that way.

your cake is soo pretty...sounds like the bride was a touch on the bridzilla side...you should be proud..sometimes I think people forget it is cake and icing not porcelain!!!! Be proud! :)

it's always easy to critic when you don't do it...if the bride thinks she could do better then have at it. i think this cake is exquisit!! you did a fab job so nevermind bridezilla!
You don't know me from Adam ... but I think this cake is GREAT - so there! She is obviously VERY picky! (So am I ... and I think this cake is amazing!) You did a great job ... I am in AWE of how you got those fondant strips even and kept them from sagging! :D

Adding stripes of fondant sideways to a cake is really difficult. And on buttercream, it is even harder. You did a great job with what she asked for. She couldn't begin to do what you do!
Although I would love to take credit for the flowers, they are fresh. Thanks for the comments!
The cake is gorgeous! I'm wondering if she was just trying to get some money back? I guess it would depend on how much she paid for it, for her to say that. Like if she only paid $2 per serving, she should be slapped for saying that, if she paid $10/ serv, that's another story. You get what you pay for. BUt again, the cake is gorgeous, and not sloppy at all. I tell my customers that my cake looks like cake, not like a magazine picture!
I think you cake looks great! I don't think tht brides realize that most of the cakes in the magazines are cake dummies and not real cake. Sure it's easy to put fondant ribbon around a hard surface but try putting it around something soft. Egads, you just can't please some people.
Your cake is beautiful! You should be very proud! Obviously, the bride as never worked hours on end to do a wedding cake!!! Great Job!
It's beautiful...I often have Brides bring me a picture of a fondant cake and say "but I don't want fondant." That's when I want to scream...They have to realize it won't have that same smooth "perfect" waxy look. (as some of my brides put it) . What a job we have......
Yep sounds like a bridezilla to me too! Some people! This cake is gorgeous and you have a right to be proud of your work. If I had been at this wedding I definitely would have been impressed :D
I don't know if she was fishing for money or not, but I didn't offer. She said it tasted delicious and I said thank you and I was sorry that she was not happy with the cake, but in my eyes it was as close to the picture as it was going to get with the changes she wanted. That was that. I wouldn't think of returning money :wink:
I think the cake is lovely. I am sorry about the bride. I would have loved this cake to have been mine.

Yes, I agree that if someone wants a magazine cover cake, they really need a fondant cake! All I do generally is fondant, because buttercream always turns out terrible for me, you did a much better job than I could have. :D

That's why I stress so much when a bride brings in a photo - a nicely lit and perhaps even touched-up professional shot. Your copy is incredible! I added it favorites before I read your description.
