The butterflies are made with soft peak royal icing, you pipe an outline with the icing on baking paper, then make it runnier, and fill in the center, adding other colors if you want. Once they are dry (Overnight), you remove them from the baking paper, and fold some baking paper in half so you have a fold with angles coming up (hope taht makes sense). Pipe a body with more soft peak royal icing, attach teh wings that you already made, and let dry. Attach to cakes with some royal icing, and voila...done!
