This is SO stinkin adorable!! The recipient must have about cried when she saw this. So creative and colorful but not too much so. I can't work with fondant on cakes. Yours looks perfect, and tie dyed! Being 65 myself I can think of half a dozen girlfriends who would go nuts over a cake like this with the VW Bug on top! How do you top this! Well done!

Hi CarolAnn. This cake was "commissioned" by my colleague's wife.  I don't get many "paid" cakes since people in Sudbury are cheap.  Ok, maybe not all but whenever people ooh and ahh over my cakes and ask if I take orders, I typically don't hear from them after I mention my price.  From reading here, I'm super cheap!  Buttercreams are $3.50/slice, fondant are $4/slice, and sculpted pieces/flowers depends on how much time they take.  The recipes are also premium since I make everything from scratch.  This one was chocolate with Grand Marnier and raspberry filling.

Anyhow, said lady originally came from Toronto (big city) so she KNOWS how much a quality cake costs so she doesn't even blink an eye at my pricing.  She has gotten me to make her husband's cakes for the past two years.  See the "Gruffalo" cake and the tree trunk with meringue mushrooms for "Nate".  Those cakes make me happy  :)  THIS one was for her mother.  From the pictures she sent me, everyone was super happy especially her Mom.  Cues for the design were "tye tied, old VW beetle, and daisies".

I'm not really complaining about the small customer base.  I work full time as  a Biologist with a 40 km daily commute.  Doesn't leave much time for cake making!
