I used a doll cake pan and of course the Little Mermaid "Ariel" doll which which I undressed for use in the cake and saved the clothes to give to the birthday girl with the doll after the party. I wrapped the lower half of the doll in plastic wrap before placing in the cake. After baking the cake, I cut a hole in the center, just enough to fit the doll into and secured it with icing. I lightly iced it with buttercream, then covered it in fondant. Then I shaped the mermaid tail with modeling clay and covered it with fondant. I textured the tail with the tip of one of my leaf decorating tips. All of Ariels little "friends" were also made out of fondant. I lightly sprayed it all with a pearl airbrush.
