A Gentleman's Cake

A Gentleman's Cake on Cake Central

I made this small cake for a gentleman's birthday. I used black, white, brown and a hint of silver. I think it suits a guy and goes pretty well with this time of season, not?

Love this cake. I have a customer that wants me to make one for a graduation. Would you mind sharing how you got the color effect?

These are strokes of brown, black and silver edible paint. The brown and black are Rainbow dust ProGel (thinned with a little water) and the silver is Sugarflair Satin Silver. I used a wide brush. Try it on a piece of paper first ;)

Might you have a DIY on how you executed the ribbon/bow? Gorgeous cake. Took my breath away first time I saw it.

I was about to ask the same question...about the bow :D It's wonderful, would love to do it for my dad's birthday cake in two days....could you please tell us how you did it? :) Thanks!

Hi Gina and Annie,

First roll out a piece of fondant and make it textured (I used the wrinkle mould on this page brenniescakehouse.nl/en/molds)

Then cut out 4 long strips and 3 shorter strips. Make a bow by folding the ends towards the middle of a long strip. If the hoops are too long, cut a little piece of the strip until the bow is the size you like.

Lay the first bow on another long strip and fold the ends of the second strip towards the middle of the first bow. Plead the middle of the double bow a little bit by squeezing the fondant.

Now push the hoops of the second bow a little up and the hoops of the first bow a little down, so they look a little like my picture. Hold the middle of the bow when you do this.

Make 2 tails from the shorter strips and glue them to the middle of the double bow.

Now make the middle of the bow with the last short strip of fondant and it it around the middle of the bow+tails. Now it should look like mine.

The last two long stips of fondant are for the sides of the cake and go up from the bottom of the cake towards the middle on top of the cake.

I really hope this helps!

Hi, Im really new to cakes decoration.

I would like to make this cake for my bf's father birthday in 2 weeks.

I have bought recently some powder colors, could i use these ( mixing them propably with some syrop-glue?) or should i buy gel colors?

Hi Maria,

I used gels (with a little water) here, but I guess you can do it with dusts as well. Just don't make the paint too thin. I always use 94% food grade alcohol to make paint. But you could also use Wodka.

Try out some strokes (with a wide, flat brush) on something else before painting on the cake!

Have fun!
