I saw a cake like this on the site and just had to do it for my nephew's party today. I thought it turned out pretty good. There will also be a cars candle at the top of three but did not want to put it on there until we get to the party. this was a lot of fun.
I was looking for a car themed cake and saw this - it is just wonderful and I may keep it in mind when I have to do something for my girlfriends son - she round about asked if I could make the cake - round about so she wouldn't have to pay!!!Thanks for the idea!
haha rachelsdelights, after doing the sides of the cake in the black and white checker - I could not feel my fingers anymore. I was up until about 1am working on it and then "accidentally" woke up the husband and since he was awake I asked him to rub my hand and arm. It was murder but worth it :)
I love this cake! I'm looking for a cars cake for my sons birthday. Mind if I ask a few questions? Are those real cars? And what did you use for the road?
the cars came from walmart for 3.88 each and the road was made out of poured fondant. I got it from my local bakery supply store, you just melt it down ad the color and then pour it into the area you want it to coat. You just have to move real fast when pouring because it dries so fast and you want it to be smooth and level. It pretty much levels itself out but if you pour some and then come back and pour some more next to that area you can see the seam where they meet. any other ?'s feel free to ask
wow this is fantastic!!! i love it! may i ask.. what did you use to make the grass? im new to this and i have a icing tip that looks like it may do that but i am unsure hehe, u did such an awsome job, well done!!!
the grass is made with wilton tip #133 (has a bunch of little holes in it). I used 2-10" round pans and then cut a small straight piece out of each and pushed them together.
thanks so much for the info and the fantastic idea! i hope u dont mind but i tried to copy only i didnt manage the grass very well and the squares on the side of the cake wanst happening for me lol so i changed it..hopefully my nephew likes it tomorrow! thanks heaps!!!!
this cake is awesome, really. The idea is great, but I need make a question, How do you make the checkers, the shape is the same distribution. Congrants
I am attempting this cake tomorrow night for my nephew...another question, did you decorate the sides separately on each cake and then put the two cakes together? I am really stressing out on this, any tips to calm me down, lol?
