Fishing Theme Cake

i knew i should have stuck to covering it in fondant! i havnt been making cakes long, only a few months really (self taught)... but aaaaaaaargh! i dont know where i go wrong with buttercream! as you can see its crystalised and the colour has started to run. why??! also i made the boat & figure at the last minute...which i realise i should have done a few days before and let dry! the whole thing started to collapse/slide/ go out of shape!

any advice appreciated! :) x
