Birthday Purse Cake

Birthday Purse Cake on Cake Central

This is my first amature attempt at a 3D cake. I was inspired by all the other cakes I have viewed on this fantastic site! I "had" fondant handles but I broke one at the last minute & substituted licorice. I am still having problems with my buttercream getting white spots...any suggestions? Any comments would be appreciated as I am still a novice at this! :)

Are you using salt in your BC? If so, make sure it dissolves in your liquids before adding to your butter/shortening. I had this same problem and that's what my Wilton Instructor told me to do, it worked! And I love your cake!

This is so cute! I do not use salt in my BC. My sister was having the same problem. So she stopped using salt, no more problems. PS. I think I probably like the licorice better.

Hi jaylahenry...all I did was bake one 9" layer, crown & cut directly down the middle. Then put your filling between the 2 pieces & stand up with the curved part up. Then I just iced & decorated it. I am pretty new to cake decorating & it was pretty easy to do! Good luck! Please let me know if you have any other questions! :)
