Coffee Time

Coffee Time on Cake Central

Critique group member: This is for my BIL's mother who is a huge coffee drinker. Let me say that I have worked with fondant, but never covered cake with it until this one. The mugs and sugar bowls are cake, covered in Satin Ice and painted. There are lots of imperfections (I know), but overall I think they're OK for a first go. The spoons are MMF, the cards are RKT covered in fondant. The coffee is piping gel. The "table" is a 10" vanilla with raspberry filling and bc icing. Color is ugly, but BIL chose it.

critique group member: you've already said your own critiques and I agree with most of them as far as a few imperfections, but let me tell you what I see. For the first time using fondant to cover, you did an excellent job. I never would have thought to use piping gel for coffee and it looks great because it adds more of a liquid look to it. Your sugar bowl is just awesome. Your paint job on the silver is great, too. It's so hard to get such a thick silver coating. Great job

Critique group member: The grey atleast makes your cups pop a bit :) I really like the design and besides the grey and maybe the bright yellow the colors are nice. The spoons look big but otherwise you get the point and the idea of piping gel for the coffee was great. Overall I really like it

Critique group member: Yep, the gray is not the best and the greeting card looks a little out of place, but I love the designs on all the dishes.

Critique Group Member: Although there are imperfections, as you've already mentioned, I think this is good for your first try. Keep working at it. You did good painting with the Luster Dust and with your printing too.

Critique subgroup member: Besides the things you have already mentioned. This is a great first time with covering something with fondant. I agree with the yellow card though but I understand that you wanted it to "pop"! I love the sugar bowl. Maybe next time if there is one when you make a sugar bowl make a littler spoon and a notch in the lid to show where the spoon would go if the lid were on.

I think everything on here looks great! I LOVE how you did the coffee with the piping gel..very cool! I don't like the grey either so you are no alone :D Great job!

Thanks! That grey is awful, but it's a close match to his Mom's actaul table, and that's what he wanted. I guess it does add a "personal" touch and she probably won't think it's ugly!

critique subgroup member: Great idea! I think you did a very good job for a first time! I love the coffee, it looks so real.I think the spoons are a little thick. and I too am not a fan of the grey, but what ya gonna do when that's what they order??? I am also a little unsure of the color of the birthday greeting card? but that could just be me. overall, very well done!

Critique subgroup member: Hmm, not my favorite cake from you but hey you were making something specific for someone else. I guess I can't add anymore then what has already been said, except that for your first on fondant, well done!

Critique group member: I just realized I never commented on this cake...I looked when you first posted, but forgot to comment. Anyways, I just wanted to add that I think you did a great job. And I don't think the yellow is such a bad choice of color. I mean, come on, how many greetings cards do you get that match your coffee cups and table top?
