Orange Roses
I only took a pic of the top of the cake, because the sides were pretty disastrous. I decided to use a recipe with half butter, half Crisco (just for the icing, not for the decorations) and it never crusted over and was pretty soggy. Rookie mistake... I'll never use butter again. The decorations slid right off the sides, but the top didn't turn out horrible. My roses are laying a little flatter than I like, but this is only my second cake, and the first time making roses, so I guess I'll improve with time.
You did a great job, i've been taking classes 1,2, and 3 for 1 year over and over, and I wish my roses looked as good as yours. I can make everything else but those roses, keep up the great work.
I think you've done a great job! The roses look great!
Thanks! I tried the bag striping technique, but instead of just putting the gel color straight into the bag, I mixed up a bit of orange icing and striped the bag with that. I think it makes the roses look a little more natural, though the straight gel striping looks really cool, too!
