How far in advance can i frost a cake? My ds b-day party is saturday but i have a ton of company comming thursday night. I don't want the cake to dry out but i'm pretty new to this and don't want to stress out with a house full of company while trying to frost and decorate on friday!!
Thanks
Cady
You could do it the Wednesday or Thursday, I prefer the Thursday before a Saturday celebration. I tend to bag the boxed cake. Sometimes when people use water as their liquid in the icing instead of milk or cream, there is a tendency to cracking in the icing as the water evaporates, the longer the iced cake sits. I would tend to bag the boxed cake for this reason, I usually use a new unscented green garbage bag or a clear plastic leaf bag for this purpose.

Adding a drop or 2 of vinegar to your icing if you use water will prevent stress marks or cracking. Just a little tip.
Can bake it on Tuesday and freeze until Thursday or Friday.
Haha, yes, I often bake the cakes a few days ahead too. Especially when I have time constraints!

Hhmn, since I use milk and cream in my icing, I suspect that would not be a good idea! I have actually never heard of that tip.

Oh you would only add if you used water. However milk +vinegar = buttermilk or sour cream.
