This was my first attempt at making tinkerbell's head/face. I laughed the entire time I was painting her face. I didn't wait for the head to actually harden any so as I was holding it to paint, it was getting more soft from the heat and pressure of my hand. Good thing she has some hair!!!

I'm going to try again tonight. With the cold dry weather we have right now, I think I'll stick it outside for a few hours to see how dry it gets and try again to paint.

Enjoy!!

I think it's great!!! I wish I could do something like that. A few nights ago I attempted to make a shoe from gumpaste (my first time using the stuff). It's so funny looking, I laugh out loud every time I look at it.

Where in Maryland do you live?

You are getting there...
the most difucult part is to paint good eyes, practice on paper, and when you feel ready paint you figure, get a picture of the real doll and try to replicate the eyes...but if you put this very one on top os a cake you'll light up the party...it's too funny... icon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

It just looks like Peter Pan got a little fresh with her and she was "surprised!!!" Very cute! icon_biggrin.gif

By the way, how did you create the white in her eyes? Was that royal icing??

Yeah, her eyes are too big, her mouth is too low, and her head is shaped funny. Cracked me up when I was done but had to add the hair anyway.

I painted the eyes by first doing a white background, then outlining in black then putting in the blue. My MIL was a good crafty artist (was trying to channel her last night) and taught me that trick.

I think she has all the qualities we gals dream of...very cute!!

What did you use for the white?? How did you get your white so bright?

Ok - I admit - it did give me a chuckle! icon_smile.gif

But the rest of the sculptin job is super! Maybe just make the eye a bit smaller? They are actually not bad eyes, just look a little crazy on Tink.

She could be Tinkerbell's sister that no one ever talks about!

She's a great little figure, it's just the expression on her face that had me chuckling into my coffee cup icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

No offense intended at all, but doesn't she look a LOT like Joan Rivers? icon_lol.gificon_lol.gificon_lol.gif

Joan Rivers!! HAHA!!! icon_smile.gif

Yea, I figured a lot of people would chuckle from it. Cracked me up for sure!

I used straight americolor color to paint the colors. I have one of those chocolate melting trays (like with a dozen little dimples) and squirted a drop of each color I was using into the tray. It worked great and rinsed off no problem.

I painted the white, let it dry. Then outlined in black and let it dry. Came back to do the blue and that was it. The colors dried really quickly.

I wish I wasn't drinking coffee either! LOL No seriously I could not even come close to that! I was going to attempt figures soon. I think you did fine.

SweetResults--This totally cracked me up!

I think the sculpture is very cute, her eyes are
just a little too slanted......Can't wait to see the next one!

Great job sculpting. I don't think her face is that bad. I think her head is just a little too large for her body and that is what is causing the illusion that her features are too big or misplaced.

She's cute in a scary sort of way, I agree about her looking like Joan Rivers.
I haven't been brave enough to try sculpting figures yet.

SweetRewards and Missyv110 - those are so funny. Now I'm sitting here thinking, "Gee, wait til I tell my husband that Tink and Joan Rivers are long lost sisters that won't talk about eachother. icon_lol.gif

Ok!! Here's Tink with her new head and wings propped up for the glue to dry. This was my third head attempt and I think it turned out better. Still not quite the shape I had hoped for but I think with all the other decorations and stuff, the little girl whom this is for will love it.

how did you get the neck to stay up? By the time I actually get to sculpting, my hands are so hot that they melt the fondant and nothing stays where I put it. Or if I lay it down, it gets "counter marks" where the fondant has spread a little from being so warm in my hands. And the little igures have weirdly flat backs....

Those years of working for Disney required plastic surgery. . . icon_lol.gif

JK. It's excellent for a first attempt. . .and I'm no one to say anything in regards to first attempts. . . icon_redface.gif

The best test of her looks came from my friend's 5 year old daughter when I sent my friend a picture of her. She said her daughter passed by and saw the picture and yelled "TINK!!!!" and asked if I could make one for her birthday in the summer. icon_biggrin.gif That, and what the actual birthday girl will feel, made all the trials, errors, and time worth wild.

Her whole body is supported vertically by a skewer. Here's the pictures I took along the way.

1) Tink's torso http://www.cakegeek.com/images/tink1.jpg

2) Tink dressed with legs http://www.cakegeek.com/images/tink2.jpg

3) Tink with arms. I made a wire form for the arms and wrapped MMF around it then stuck the wire end into her shoulder. http://www.cakegeek.com/images/tink3.jpg

4) Tink with her final head and wings propped up for drying
http://www.cakegeek.com/images/tink5.jpg

I think I'll definitely use the skewer method again even if it is just toothpicks. The MMF stuck to it well and didn't sag at all.

Love your second one. she is perfect. The nature of decorating is trial and error . At least that is what I have found. With this great forum we also get great tips to help us along the way.
