I agree -K8memphis. I do not understand, for the life of me, why so few people actually participate on this site.  We have the best forum on the internet right here......or maybe it is just the talented, generous people who do participate.  Such a shame.  So many people post their pictures and just turn and walk away, never look at anyone else's work or share in the discussions.  Oh well, their loss.  I am staying.

I've noticed that there's not as much participation on here as there used to be (I often read through the old posts). As a newbie, it's great to have access to those with years of experience for tips and guidance. Definitely a shame that more aren't willing to engage. But a big THANK YOU to all of you that do. I for one certainly appreciate it more than you know :)

Quick question guys! If I wanted to use royal icing on fondant (just to attach some edible pearls to the fondant), I don't have to wait for the fondant to dry do I? I can just lay the fondant on my cookie and pipe the RI right away? Just wanted to check as I've never used RI, but I figured it'd be the best thing for attaching pearls.

And likewise if the fondant has started to set/dry is it ok to use royal icing? I'm thinking it would be easier to just decorate all my cookies and go back at the end to attach any pearls with the RI (otherwise the icing would be sitting out for too long, and I'm not sure how that'd hold up).

yes royal is fine but I would only use soft pearls on it not the little rock hard teeth splitter ones you can buy -- and myself I would pipe royal icing pearls on -- saves time

and the fondant should be fine just applied or firm but no grease on it from rolling it out or anything so the royal will adhere

Thanks K8memphis! Yes, some of those pearls are like little rocks aren't they? The ones I use aren't super soft, but they're not rock hard either. I only plan to use one or two here and there. But I might try my piping skills and just go for RI pearls first. Thanks :)

have I told you about gum arabic??? -- if you add it to your royal, your finished pearl will shine -- and if you make your royal as always then add the right amount of water to it -- you can make a perfect pearl that will round it's own self perfectly  and shine in a pearlified way -- so something that can take several picky little steps to get the way you want if you glue them on and put the pearl dust on (what do you call that stuff) -- you can get the finished product with one squeeze of the piping bag -- I love that green_heart

No, I've not heard of using gum arabic. I ended up not using the pearls anyway, as they weren't really necessary. I've only really used RI twice, so I'm not very skilled at it yet, but it's something I want to get better at, because I love what you can do with it. If I ever need any tips, I now know who to ask ;)
