Gold - Painted Or Stencil?

Sorry for the quality of the photo but how would you guys suggest doing something like this with the gold?  

So many questions, is it painted, stencil, sprayed!?  Also, if it's painted what do you think is the best way to go about it?

Any help is most appreciated.

I agree with -K8memphis and kakeladi, it is painted on with a brush, probably with gold dust mixed with  vodka.
